### UPDATE: Literally everything in this release is terribly outdated. I will release a v4 eventually. Only download this if you're desperate. **Updates:** 1. ~~This is it. This is my final/definitive release of the Level Sets, rebuilt from the ground up. If you’ve downloaded any previous versions of these episodes, please replace them with this release.~~ 2. All episodes are newly encoded from the raw sets with NEPs added in from the R2J Dragon Box (v2 was a re-encode). In addition, the video has been re-timed to match the Dragon Box for ease of synchronization. This has the bonus effect of allowing me to create a version of 1-39 that uses the R2J Dragon Box as a video source. Grain has been kept from the original release. 3. All episodes contain the higher quality JPN Broadcast Audio as released by AnimeMaakuo. A light noise reduction was applied in Audacity to eliminate some of the hiss and the fake stereo was removed and reduced down to the original mono. No other processing was applied. 4. The Saban/Ocean track has been once again re-timed and cleaned up to provide smoother transitions between track elements. New themes for Eyecatches and NEPs have been created from original soundtrack elements. 5. I have added the 5.1 UUE English track for the episodes that it is available for. Aside from being 5.1, the UUE track uses the [Dave Moran OP](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVIkMe4ludM) theme that originally ran with the UUE episodes. 6. The Remastered/Johnson dub uses the Orange Bricks as its source due to ease of syncing and my desire to reduce bloat. The exceptions are episodes 1-8 which are derived from the Season Sets due to them containing some alternate musical cues. As a compromise I will be releasing FLAC season set audio of the replacement score track for the entire series separately for anyone who wants to sync it to the R2J. 7. ~~Unless there’s a major mistake I am never touching these episodes again **(UPDATE FROM THE FUTURE: there will be a v4)**. I will be proceeding with season 3 next before re-releasing season 2.~~ *** *These episodes are compiled from the following sources. Unless otherwise specified, I am the original encoder for all elements:* **Video:** 1. (1-34) 4x3 1080p R1/US Level Set Blu-Rays - *from raw Blu-Rays, retimed to R2J* 2. (35-39) 4x3 1080p R1/US Level Set WEB-DL - *originally captured by Arian & DragoonClawNZ* **Audio - 6 tracks:** 1. Japanese Mono Tokai Broadcast Audio (FLAC) - *originally released by AnimeMaakuo, retimed by me* 2. English 2007 5.1 FUNimation "Remastered" Dub w/Shunsuke Kikuchi score (AC3) - *from the R1/US Dragon Box* 3. English 2007 2.0 FUNimation “Remastered” Dub w/Nathan Johnson score (AC3) - *from the Season Sets (1-8) and Orange Bricks (9-39)* 4. English 2005 5.1 FUNimation Ultimate Uncut Edition Dub (AAC) - *from the UUE DVDs (1-27 only)* 5. English 1996 2.0 Saban/Ocean Dub (AAC) - *A re-creation of the original English dub, custom made by me, with gaps filled in with the FUNi/Kikuchi dub in an attempt to create a relatively seamless nostalgic viewing experience. Sourced from the "Rock The Dragon" DVD Set* 6. Japanese DVD Audio (AC3) - *from the R2J Dragon Box* **Subtitles - 2 tracks:** 1. English (SSA) - *English official translations originally released by Romao* 2. English Signs/Songs (SUP) - *from the R1/US Dragon Box* *** **Random Notes:** 1. Insert songs have been re-added to FUNi/Kikuchi episodes 20 and 28. They were omitted from the official release. 2. The NEP from Ocean episode 10 (Uncut episode 14) was pulled from the Madman single since it was omitted from the RTD release. 3. Thanks to JySzE for Orange Brick resources. 4. Thanks to N12 for UUE resources. [MediaInfo](https://pastebin.com/K7u5EQuV)

If you partially downloaded the old torrent, the only files that changed are episodes 7, 28, and 38. If you link this one with your partial download, it should hopefully pick up from where it was. Answers to common questions here, before the comments get out of hand again: I'm still doing the whole series. This is all the level set footage, so the rest will be R2J Dragon Boxes. I'm not using the season sets, or the new anniversary edition, because they look like crap.
@iKaos As I said on the previous version of the torrent. I'll seed this for around a month or more. Thank you for your hard work @iKaos on making this fantastic release.
I'm probably just going to watch it as it is. Making remuxes would be too time consuming and these encodes are pretty good already. Thank you so much, especially for including the English dubbed NEPs when possible.
man, i appreciate your dedication to making this release the best it could possibly be. thanks a ton, as always me and a significant portion of the dbz fanbase look forward to new releases. take your time :)
Same as the other dudes ! Thanks to the dbz community, we can enjoy it at max quality ;)
@iKaos Done downloading around 12 hours ago, now just to seed for other people to enjoy this piece of art.
Thank you.I'm here for the audio.wwhen's the next batch? want to see witch draon box r2j you are going to use is it going to be the one from here 400 gb or smt else. And are you going to release english audio separate as well?
The UUE edition is sick! I didn't even know it existed. Thanks for introducing this to me and thanks for this massive beast of a season. Looking forward to Season 3! One Question, How many audios will be there from the Season 3 onwards? I see that UUE is only up to 27 episodes. What about the others?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@tormux123x It'll be my own encode straight from the ISOs, like I did with season 2. The 400GB release is a remux, meaning no conversion was done to the files after they are pulled from the DVD, which is good if you want the highest quality you can get. I prefer encodes because you can still get really high quality at a fraction of the size, which is important for a show this long. So my episodes end up being around 400-700MB with all the audios, instead of 1.5GB with just the broadcast audio. I have a couple of audio torrents that I'll eventually release. After I re-time the Ocean sub to the R2J, I'll release all of the Ocean tracks together. Sooner than that, I will release all of the season set audio FLACs that I've collected for anyone that wants to re-time the Eng/Johnson/Faulconer Productions track to the R2J in the highest quality possible. I might also release either the FLAC or WAV BA from Maakuo's torrent once I'm all done with everything, but that's obviously a long time from now (difference would be the WAVs would be the untouched audio from Maakuo's torrent, just split into episodes and synced to R2J, while the FLACs are what you get in this torrent). @ab8895 While technically the UUE dub goes all the way to 67 (in fact it's labeled as such on my initial season 2 releases), the version here only goes up to 27 because that's when FUNi canceled their home release of the UUE dub in favor of the Orange Bricks. For 28-67 there is no difference between the "remastered" dub that first appeared on the OBs and the UUE dub that would have aired on TV. Season 3 audios are mono AnimeMaakuo BA, 5.1 FUNi/Kikuchi, 2.0 FUNi/Faulconer Productions, 2.0 Original FUNi Dub (singles/TV), and the R2J JPN track because why not. Still undecided on Westwood dub but that's not until season 4.
I never saw the Westwood dub but I say the many audios the better, but that is up to you to decide whether to include the Westwood dub as you would know how much work is needed to be put into it. And I'm not gonna complain about it. Thank you so much, again!
@iKaos This so perfect and awesome. Thank you. When are you doing the next saga in 1080p?
@iKaos : Do you have an email where I can contact you ?

@SpanishGarbo read comment #1. @andiandi 85ikaos at gmail. I'm also in the Discord above.
@andiandi is jap audio flac from your release better then the broadcast audio from https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1114198 ?
meant to ask that question of the uploader, sorry @iKaos.so is it any better? I wonder witch 1 should I for japanese audio tack in the dragon box z that I downloaded.

@tomux123x While I believe they both share the same source (Tokai), the WinxBloom audio in the other torrent is highly compressed (96kb/s AAC) compared to the original source WAV. Mine is very close to the original, in FLAC16. Honestly I would grab an episode of both and compare, the actual auditory difference might be negligible. The WinxBloom audio is already out there for the entire series synced to both the R1 and R2J sources.
Thanks. This was exactly what i was looking for Also, sorry for asking here but could anyone seed this torrent please. https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1093811 I have been trying to get it for days.
Still seeding this for anyone else that wants to enjoy the true HD beauty of DBZ.
@SidTheGamer0, can you share some screenshots of this Level sets, i don't know how it looks, i have them without grain, maybe it is season set, it contains no grain at all

User
Just an FYI I always continuously seed everything I release, unless it gets replaced by something better.
@iKaos Glad to hear that, thank you both of you for seeding this amazing level sets When next part is coming [1080p][x264][10bit], from episode 40 - 291 ?
@KakarotManrai99 What do you mean, say it clearly I hope you are a nice kind person unlike others who interfers unnecessarily in other comments & insult them, let's keep nyaa toxic free

iKaos (uploader)

User
@OMER He means I'm not doing 1080p 10bit for anything after 39 because there is no good quality 1080p source after 39. His answer was short because I've probably said this on every torrent I've posted, including this one on the first comment.
@iKaos I love what you do and I'm so grateful for it. I plan on doing my own (not for upload) edit of the Ocean dub episodes only (including the cuts) for Nostalgic purposes. But I do wish you'd use the blu-ray sets or even the upcoming 30th anniversary sets (whenever those get released). Dragon Box is okay but there is something to seeing it in 1080p, even if part of the picture is cut off.

iKaos (uploader)

User
@Eckhart it's no use in seeing it in 1080p if the image is smudgy because it's been scrubbed of all detail with brightness blown out in order to make a 90s show look "modern". The anniversary sets do not look like they're going to be an upgrade, either. It sucks but the fact is you're going to get the most detail for this show out of a 15 year old DVD transfer.
Hi, Ikaos you're a genius, great edition and in good quality, but there is no one to seeding? I'm missing chapter 28 of this Level set edition. or if you can upload it to mega.zn
I am going to seed this continually for the foreseeable future.
Good lord! 3gb per episode. Isn't that a bit much? I mean, forgive my ignorance, but does it really need to go that high?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@SylentEcho The episodes are large because of the inherent grain in the level sets. I don't really have the tools to reduce the grain any further without it starting to look like the season sets, and so the trade off is the episodes need a high bitrate in order maintain quality. I made the choice when doing these v3s that I would choose quality over anything else. The Dragon Box version of these episodes are smaller, obviously, for people where space is a concern.
Why aren't these episodes playing on my LG C8 OLED TV ? It says file cannot be recognized despite being able to play other MKV files, my TV runs on WebOS, supports multiple file formats and has a 10 bit panel, your DBox release has been working perfectly so i don't understand why these aren't.

iKaos (uploader)

User
@kaihiei Not sure, could be a WebOS limitation regarding the 10-bit encoding. I have a C7 and the episodes play fine through my Shield/NAS combo that I play all my media through. I would locate another 10-bit MKV and see if it can play that. The more I read about it it was probably kind of pointless to do these in 10-bit, but that's why the DBOX release exists.
@iKaos isn't Tokai's broadcast audio one of the worst out there?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@JanSilver01 Tokai is considered the most complete BA since it has all episodes with NEPs and recaps available. Ishikawa can be slightly better, but it only covers around a third of the episodes and is often missing pieces. There are also like 2 episodes out there from Fuji, which is the most clear quality available. So sure, it's "one of the worst" in that there are basically 3 options, but it's the only one that has the entire series and it's still miles above the Dragon Box audio.
@iKaos So I was about to delete my v2 of these episodes when I realized the v2 looks less grainy from this one, why is that?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@SpanishGarbo I encoded these from the raw source (which is very grainy) whereas my v2 was a re-encode of Grupa Mirai's release, which had the grain all scrubbed out. Aside from not losing quality from being a re-encode, these are closer to how the episodes should look.
I'm new here. My goal is to find the best version of the original Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball Super Dubbed episodes 1-131. So, what exactly is this and why is it over 100gb for just the first saga? That seems kind of excessive. What about the other sagas? This is confusing.

iKaos (uploader)

User
@zechnasx0 This specific release uses FUNi's "Level Set" Blu-Rays, a source that is known for being the only high quality 1080p remaster of these particular episodes. Unfortunately FUNi stopped releasing these remasters after episode 39 in favor of their terrible "Season Sets". The file size is high because I elected to preserve the grain from the film masters that is inherent in this release, which has the side effect of bloating the file size a bit. There are also many different audio tracks included. If the size is too big for you, I made R2J Dragon Box encodes with the exact same audio options. For the rest of the episodes I use the Dragon Boxes as a source since that's the only option available that retains the original visual quality of the show, and so naturally the file sizes are much smaller.
Awesome, thank you. Will be seeding.
I noticed there are some audio sync issues in the episodes where Goku and Piccolo fight Raditz and possibly in others as well. You should check it out. And I'm talking about this track - English 2007 5.1 FUNimation “Remastered” Dub w/Shunsuke Kikuchi score (AC3).
so from episode 40 what is the best 1080p version? thanks
@iKaos How did you convert tokai's audio to mono? Did you mix the left and right channels or what?
@Mangaio none. Even Dragon Ball Kai has a kinda bad remaster
and is crf 22 enough ?
also, is the original video for xbox live 1920 1080 or u upscaled it ?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@ab8895 There's a few sporadic audio issues that have cropped up since release, all will be fixed in the batch when I'm all done with the series. @Mangaio The 30th Anniversary, I guess, but that's still pretty bad compared to these episodes. @JanSilver01 I picked the best channel, although for the most part they're the same. @Chilled crf 22 was a trade off between the amount of grain in the release and quality. Believe me, it took an incredibly long time to arrive at the encode settings that I did, but I think it came out pretty good. For 35-39 my original source was 1080p.
Any interest in doing a project identical to this one, but with the laser disc audio for the openings and endings?
Also, I'm new to this and I don't know how to access the other audio tracks other than the Japanese track. Can anyone help?
thank you for replying, i believe you sir, great work

iKaos (uploader)

User
@mattsterZ Because new things are constantly being shared by the community, the specifics of tracks change between releases. So my season 5 uses Deli295's audio, which has LD openings (but broadcast EDs). My season 6 will have CD EDs, as should 7-9. When I'm all done I will go back and incorporate these changes (and others) into 1-5 when I make a final batch release. Most video players will have the ability to change audio tracks, usually in an options menu. For example in MPC it is under Play > Audio. Same goes for any streaming media players you attach to a TV.
Im confused. Is the video source the blu ray level sets or r2j dragon box with grain from the level sets?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@mattsterZ I have two releases for S1, this torrent is the levels, but I also have one that is R2J Dragon Box. What I've done here is visually synced the level set footage with the Dragon Box audio and added the DBOX NEPs, so that any audio that is released for the Dragon Box can be synced to my level sets. The video footage itself though is unedited (only the timings have changed), so the grain comes from the levels.
thanks. Also, this guy on youtube has level set footage upscaled to 4k and it looks amazing. Do you know how he did it?
And what do you recommend as the best video player for best quality. What do you think of the plex video player?
@iKaos you should not pick one of the channels, instead you should mix the both channels into one. But if the audio is loud enough, I don't mind. BTW, can you give me the non-encoded files? I'd like to add them into my collection, since I can't buy Funimation here.
@iKaos thanks a lot for your work on this. This (like all of your other releases) is truly the definitive release for the level sets. @mattsterZ the upscale on YouTube was likely done using video2x with either waifu2x or Anime4K. The upscale results you can achieve on animated video with a high quality source are pretty amazing, but unfortunately it can take a VERY long time to process. I've seen times up to 24 hours per episode for going from 1080 => 4K. I think a lot of people including myself are using mpv for playback. VLC also works fine for me, but I've heard other people complain about it being trash. In practice, I'm almost solely watching video through Plex though when not at my PC.
@iKaos any reason you didn't use x265 to encode this to reduce the size drastically?
Will you be redoing some of these episodes with the newly found Fuji Tower audio?
Well I thought these were the best release of the show but since it is has now been discovered that all Funimation releases from the Level Sets onward have missing frames, I guess it means Dragon Boxes all the way.

iKaos (uploader)

User
I don't check these comments often anymore. @Rohanroms I did some tests with x265 and it wasn't worth the encode time for me. I spent a very, very long time trying to get settings that were acceptable. @Venny For the batch I will replace all Tokai audio with better quality where available - for these episodes there's a lot of Ishikawa tracks that have since been synced, as well as the brand new Fuji tracks. It's very likely that by the time I get to it, the Fuji's will be synced. @CSManiac33 They have a few missing frames (which might explain why I was having some issues getting these to line up with the R2J DVDs), but they also have a few added frames at the very beginning and end of episodes. It's nothing significant. That said, there's a reason I released two versions of S1.

@toppoer thank you so mush
Just now finding these, great work! My one question is why fill in the gaps of the Ocean track with the Kikuchi dub mix? It's somewhat infamous for mixing down poorly, and the two American OST's would probably "vibe" more together, since they're run-on pieces whereas Kikuchi produces structured tracks. Not criticism, just curiosity. Cause I've thought of doing this forever and I was going to mesh it the other way. Wondering if you tried it and deemed the transition too rough? Admittedly it's possible I'm wrong and the silence from the Kikuchi mix actually makes the gaps less jarring.

@boob I will probably elaborate a lot more on the Saban track on my batch release, since I've never really gone into detail with regards to some of my choices, but to answer your questions - One of the first decisions I made when attempting this project was to use the 5.1 FUNi Kikuchi dub to fill the gaps, mostly for 2 reasons: 1. The 5.1 track allows for the muting of music and isolation of vocals (sometimes). This is helpful in some scenarios where I was able to use or loop the Wasserman score from the Saban dub behind the FUNi voices in order to smooth out short gaps. It also enables me to create... 2. Silence. While it might seem like 2 replacement scores would go well together, the fact is they are tonally quite jarring when heard next to each other, and while suddenly hearing Kikuchi is definitely jarring as well, the fact is that there is much less of it across each episode, which gave me more creative flexibility. I've tweaked this track 4 different times now (the most recent revision will be in my upcoming batch release) and I think it's about as good as it can get at this point. It's definitely something that's an acquired taste and not for everyone but it accomplished what I set out to do. If nothing else it helps expose how crazy some of the edits were in the Saban dub.
in my humble opinion if people do not mind downloading 3.3 GiB per episode, it means they care about quality and therfore i think that a remux the raw AVC track from the BD discs with flac compressed audios, provided it will make the release even huge, but stil it has a better quality than a crf 22 encode, it's too low and i tried myself to encode it and result was bigger than the raw video itself, also removing grain means removing details and like the encoder said removing grain is akin to removing brush strokes from a painting. This is just a proposition, i would like to see this released with untouched video + your amazing work on the audios (maybe alongside your compressed video release). Bear in mind that even a BD REMUX of the episodes as is yields less filesize due the overhead of m2ts files, it depends on the episode but an mkv BDREMUX even with PCM audio always gives inferior filesize than an m2ts file.
When do you expect V4 to be released?

@Chilled Way late but I don't check here often. The plan is for v4 to be encoded with much better settings than I did here, when I didn't really know anything about encoding. To speak to @321GameTime's point, this means I have to do some work with the video, so currently there's no timetable for v4 since we're foucsing on other stuff right now. We will get to it eventually, however.
Alright, well, since I have nothing left to lose at this point as far as this issue is concerned, I might as well let it be known as far as I can so that maybe I can get the right help. So, since iKaos' last release, I managed to find and download the original .mp4 files that Sony hosted on the PlayStation servers for their streaming service. https://i.imgur.com/TQb6CZW.png Problem is, they're still locked under a DRM. The good news being that that's the last of our worries. If we can somehow unlock these files, we'll be home free with 1:1 WEB-DLs of the remaining Level Set episodes! If anyone wants to lend me a hand and knows what they're doing when it comes to PlayStation/Marlin DRM, you can send me an email at [email protected] to get in touch with me. If everything checks out, I'll hand you the raw files and you can do your thing most likely. I, of course will be willing to help and do anything needed if called upon. Well, that's it. Hope this pans out. Deuces~ -Arian
When v4 becomes available, I'll keep it alive on a seedbox!
Any news about the v2, @iKaos?
