Introduction: R? Jin Z (????) is a 1991 Japanese animated film written by Katsuhiro? Tomo and directed by Hiroyuki Kitakubo. A manga, ZeD, designed by Tai Okada was also created by the same subject. Twenty years after the release in theaters, Kazé recovers what, presented in half of Europe by Manga Video in the mid-Nineties, we can consider one of the great absentees of the VHS era of the Italian anime market; in our country, in fact, only Zed arrived, the paper adaptation published by Star Comics first in episodes on Kappa Magazine from December 1994 to June 1995 and then collected in volume in January 2007. Roujin Z, as the cover reminds us, has seen collaborating important personalities well known in Italy as Hiroyuki Kitakubo (Robot Carnival, The bizarre adventures of JoJo, Blood The Last Vampire) directed, the late Satoshi Kon (Paranoia Agent) to the direction artistic and Katsuhiro Otomo to the original subject, screenplay and mecha design. To these is added the soft and intriguing touch of character designer Hisashi Eguchi, famous in Japan for the manga Stop !! Hibari-kun! (published on Jump in the early Eighties and brought on TV by Toei) and for his illustrations of female subjects. Plot: Roujin Z is set in Japan in the 21st century. A group of scientists and hospital administrators, under the directives of the Ministry of Public Health, have developed the Z-001, a hospital bed with computerized robotic characteristics. The Z-001 takes complete care of the patient; can dispense food and medicine, remove waste, bathe and exercise the patient who remains comfortably lying inside. The first patient to volunteer to test the bed is a dying widower named Kiyuro Takazawa. Something unexpected happens, however, the electronic elements inside the Z-001 somehow manage to transcribe the old man's thoughts and launch a cry for help that reaches the computer of the young nurse Haruko ...
