Synopsis

The children of an old-fashioned patriarch (Mikuni Rentaro) of a family in Iwate Prefecture gather to observe the first anniversary of their mother’s death. Later, at dinner, the family discusses who’s going to take responsibility of looking after the father now that he’s getting too old to live alone in the country but can’t find the solution. Tetsuo (Nagase Masatoshi), the youngest son who works part-time as a bartender in Tokyo, quarrels with his father over the way he is leading his life. Upon return to the city he finds a new job at a steel factory. One day, while delivering steel rods to a warehouse, he meets a beautiful girl (Wakui Emi) there whom he instantly falls in love with. What he doesn’t know is that the girl is actually deaf-mute. Some time later the father decides to visit the capital to reunite with some old wartime buddies…
