This is the KAA-Mokkori joint Czech and English (2 separate .ass tracks) fansub for the 1st cour (season) of School Rumble. It was originally on a Czech video sharing site and I am reuploading here for easier access for others. I decided to do this because I wanted to try and give it a watch, and I was looking for a good fansub of the first season. This is the only good one I could find with .ass encoding for subtitles. Everyone else either burned them into the video, made it a vobsub, or used .srt/plaintext. KAA supposedly used some notes ~~and a lot of the script~~ from WF, so hopefully translation quality is still good (although most of the script is from the official subs). This DVD based mkv version also has better encoding and video quality than the WF release. Additionally, if you have other DVD based encodes you can mux in the sub tracks from here since it is a relatively small download and not worry about retiming (I am using the VCB-Studio DVD encode since it seems the best to me). I have upload data caps but I will try to seed as long as I can. Additionally, if you comment and ask for seeding, assuming I see it/Nyaa notifies me I will try my best to seed for you. Edit: I just watched the first five episodes. I just wanted to add that the first four episodes do have joint WF+KAA mostly soft .ass subs here: https://nyaa.iss.one/view/273188. I did prefer these over the KAA ones for eps 1-4 because they have extra notes from WF that, while very 2005, actually do contribute to understanding (and give the subs more personality and charm, in a quaint kind of way). Some notes I could have done without just because I already know about them from anime viewing experience, but with others I would have missed the joke a bit without them. I would recommend these subs for any beginner. The KAA subs for eps 1-4 in this torrent are very similar, except they do not have some of these notes. Besides different typesetting, the main addition with the WF+KAA .ass subs in the other torrent appear to only be a few notes, some of which I feel are crucial. It's unfortunate the softsubs are only there for eps 1-4. I originally ignored them because they are partially hardsubbed, but it turns out the hardsubbed stuff is only a few things like some karaoke and the title card that the softsubbed notes more than make up for imo. So for now, my humble recommendation is to use the .ass subs for the first four episodes from the other torrent and the other files from here for the first season. I apologize for the late notice. Edit 2: Credit to @nx6 for discovering that these subs, except for some notes, most likely use official subs for scripts (see discussion below for more info.). Only some notes are from WF fansubs.

Glad to see people still share quality content here !

@nabiru3: Where else would they share it?
@iamlegendanon Recent torrents for old shows here in Nyaa are usually crappy mini encodes. A decent release from 2000s would rarely if ever make it here seeded.
Well this release isn't that bad on its own, but I still rather take Exiled-Destiny's SRT when it comes to having consistent subtitles throughout all of the seasons.

@nabiru3: I see. For future reference, where would you go for good torrents of old shows? I try to use anidb.net to figure out what releases for a show exist and usually they do end up being on Nyaa. I think I've come across maybe three releases (including this one) that couldn't be found on any public trackers or didn't have full seeders at all even if I waited for months. I believe they were all for old shows, but usually Nyaa has been pretty good to me.

@ToishY: That's fair, E-D's version is definitely higher quality encoding wise if you don't want to remux. But I believe the subtitles they use are just the official ones, so you lose out on typesetting and some improved translation. This may or may not be important to you, and of course as you say they do have all the seasons, which is a definite improvement. I might look around and see if there are other complete fan softsubs for the other seasons after I finish the first season.

> E-D’s version is definitely higher quality encoding wise if you don’t want to remux. But I believe the subtitles they use are just the official ones, so you lose out on typesetting and some improved translation. The subs in this release are not WF's. I have the WF files and these and I'm playing episode 10 side-by-side now. I think the subs in this release are more likely the DVD subs OCR'd and typeset with additional on-screen typesetting. Besides the fact the subtitle track is literally named "DVD subs", the structure of them seems more like commercial subs. Conversation is broken into longer lines that remain on screen longer, and aren't timed as multiple shorter phrases matching spoken speech like fansubbers tend to do. Some long sentences are being simplified into shorter translations, ending particles like "ね?" are dropped in the translation (where a fansubber might include a "right?" or "huh?" depending on editing). And yeah, I would have liked a higher bitrate, too. The WF AVI files come from the days of standardized size to fit four on a CD-ROM. I know this is h264 here, but something higher would still have been better. I will say this is not a bad encode, though. The WF files have a slightly brighter picture and higher color saturation, but I see more fine-detail in backgrounds and object surfaces (wood) in these files.

@nx6: I looked into it further and I think you're right. The script is probably mostly official subtitles with typesetting except for some notes, which are from WF. See a few (rather humorous) exampes here: https://linx.li/owx6c6ni.jpg and https://linx.li/9v0wa6px.jpg. These are both from KAA episode 6, and if you compare with WF the script is different except for these notes, which are the same word for word. I updated the description to match what you found out, thanks. As for the encode quality, at least to me the WF one still seems clearly inferior, with the brighter picture losing a lot of the details as you mentioned but also appearing washed out with inaccurate colors. Here's a cool comparison I found: http://compare.bakashots.me/compare.php?setId=4257&comparisonId=30409&imageNum=2
Will you make the second season as well?

@Zerox189: I didn't "make" anything, I just found this release. I'm still watching the first season since I'm super slow with school and work and everything else, but when I finish I will try to find good sources for the 2nd season if possible.
Okey. Thanks for the answer.
>I see. For future reference, where would you go for good torrents of old shows? I wouldn't suggest using only torrent sites to grab old shows, and definitely not here, since most stuff seeded here are crappy re-encodes, or big bloated ones [example](https://nyaa.iss.one/?f=0&c=0_0&q=arakawa+under+the+bridge&s=seeders&o=desc), you can get some good releases here, but for the majority, private trackers like BakaBT (the one you shared the comparison shots from) are a good place, else, you can find some good stuff at these (non-torrent) sites: [Nandato](https://nanda.to/) - you can find some mega and drive links for MK,SCY, CTR, and other dual audio releases. [thehylia](http://anime.thehylia.com) - now only host old unlicensed anime [AnimeUmi](http://Aumi.ru) - some rare stuff in here, but mostly old DTV releases [fluffy](http://fluffy.is) - cool place to find good old releases [tokyoinsider](https://www.tokyoinsider.com/) - also contains some rare stuff. [ulzo](https://ulozto.net/) - very random, but it hosts some great releases, this is actually where I got this [release](https://ulozto.net/file/tJX5mwU3/school-rumble-19-dvd-h264-aac-kaa-mokkori-1d6b33d0-mkv) from [chauthanh](https://chauthanh.info) - keep removing licensed anime and deleting good releases, grab what you can while you can xdcc - usually the links are found [here](https://nibl.co.uk), but [for Thora releases](https://thoranime.nyaarchive.moe) and [also Chihiro's](http://xdcc.chihiro-subs.us/) [animeshowcollection](https://animeshowcollection.blogspot.com) - a good collection Mega.nz ([Final8](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ovTURsScsLqwYyvPFQzACeW46f-hpQistuy1GbMC5bI/edit#gid=0) and DDY/BDY mega links are from their own respective website) For torrent sites you can also try your luck with these: Shanaproject, Anidex, tokyotosho, minglong(you prolly not gonna find a lot of seeded stuff here, but check it out if you haven't). A word of advice: don't trust aniDB group ratings, ever.
