>finallyyy, one good encode in this shitstorm.
Bloated as always.
Good encoders don't bloat the fucking size for no good reason.
On the other hand, their quality is good. Just waste of bandwith sucks.
>We will not make our releases bitstarved on purpose.
tbh it seems like a fine size if you consider the FLAC audio which is huge
>Any chance of 4k encodes in the future?
maybe in 10-15 years when there's a single anime produced at a resolution above 1080p
Technically everything right now is bloated when you compare roughly ~10 years ago when anime eps (including horrible) never went above 400MB. Heck people made fun of coalgirls for releasing eps which were more than 1GB, but look at where we are now.
>On the other hand, their quality is good. Just waste of bandwith sucks.
Using FLAC is a shitty choice for a decent balance between size/quality, so when you see someone use it, just realize that they 0 care about the balance and try to keep as much intact data as possible.
On a side note, we've come a long way as [this did exist in 2011](https://coalgirls.wakku.to/934/angel-beats) so imagine the pain back then !
@Aryma
I have made my version that you can find here: https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1249976
And if there are any extra that you would like to see translated, feel free to write me on any social network ^^

Using the FLAC also allows you to save the sound as it is pretty simple and fast. Performing a dithering when changing the bit depth 24 - 16 (conversion to lossy) and superior sound preservation, such as the AAC is more expensive.
@psychickitten https://slow.pics/c/JVkBs50k uhdbd (1) vs filtering (2). Do not pay attention to the brightness, I performed the conversion to sdr for the sake of demonstration line art. 4k is very bad here.
I've never understood why people don't realize others are probably going to use to make their own releases or *re-encodes which all the quality nuts love* meaning you NEED to release it with HIGH BITRATE and HIGH QUALITY audio to minimize [generation loss](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_loss). If you're just going to be using this (as-is) then sure its bloated, but you don't know how people are going to be using these files. This release already has generation loss to a degree you need to start with high quality to make low quality
>Oh, just pick Goodencoder’s™ version and don’t bother yourself making that complaint again. We will not make our releases bitstarved on purpose.
Absolutely fucking savage, and thank god
If 8.3GB for 2 hours is bloated to you, then your standards are very low. Take your Kissanime standards to a different uploader please ?
@Kamiyan93 Instead of bitching out about the size here, you have other options.
Here's a release that suits your shitty internet:
https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1250178
I'm seeing a couple of people in the comments saying that this file is 8.2 GB or so, where as for me it says that it's 20.9. Am i just dumb and I'm not quite understanding something or is this somehow on my end? I'm like super new to torrenting so i don't really understand alot
@VanillaDegenerate
The torrent is 20.9 GB because it includes a lot of stuff.
Film file is only 8.2 GB but the other 12 GB are the BD Menu, CMs, PVs, Bonus videos, Soundtrack and extra audios in 5.1
@Aicha oh i see, Makoto Shinkai forgot the cloud layer for movie theaters, and here it’s apparently what he forgot on the disk edition. That's what production means for 2 years, not 4 years.
>Stop complaining about the video and audio quality.
Literally no one complained about the quality, some people called it a bloat, but that isn't a complaint of the v/a quality.
>Using the FLAC also allows you to save the sound as it is pretty simple and fast.
exactly, and in return, it is worth a shit-ton of size in comparison to lossy formats (AAC), not to DTS, which has worse compression efficiency.
Unfortunately many places around the world including the USA still have limited bandwidth connection setup on purpose by greedy corporations particularly where majority of them hold monopolies. They care nothing about providing adequate services. Some of these bastards have even tried to sue cities where they would try to setup their own internet services and evil judges allowed it to go to courts and stop cities from providing their own internet to their own residents.
Got one guy complaining about hevc. @vikrant9760 It's time to upgrade. If low on funds get an AMD got 3rd generation Ryzen for $100. Build a pc off that and you won't bitch about watching anime in hevc even at 1080p 10 bit 444 again.
Now i have seen both (psarips and this) i realized that the video quality is 100% identical.... so i think this is bloated imo.....im just here for cd and extra stuffs...
@JamesXD
PSARips is a low quality bitrate starved encode with terrible blurring, macroblocking, smudging, and other compression artifacts.
If you think Beatrice's encode is 100% identical, you need your eyes checked.
Thank you for this!!! The data may be bloated but the graphics suits my eyes and taste :) One of the best encode I have seen so far.
I am not really sure why others complain much about tedious things when they just get a freeload from this. They should say thanks.
God bless your team! Keep it up!
> Bloated as always.
> Good encoders don’t bloat the fucking size for no good reason
I just wanted to come back and reply to this. Preface: This was my first time working with H265 and most of my H264 knowledge was with CBR on OBS for livestreaming.
I did these ffmpeg settings to try to re-encode so a friend could watch with a lower internet speed off my file server: `-map 0 -c copy -vcodec libx265 -preset fast -pix_fmt yuv422p10le -x265-params "limit-sao:subme=3:rc-lookahead=40:b-adapt=1:crf=24:bframes=8:psy-rd=2:psy-rdoq=4:aq-mode=3:deblock=-1,-1"`. This was on an overclocked 3950X with SMT off and took about 55 minutes.
I definitely could've done slow/veryslow and played with deblock and psy-rd a bit more, but those settings came out to 3.2 GB with what I'd consider medium-ish settings and CRF 24 (smaller than 22 and 21 which are still very lossy).
Here's a [comparison](https://imgur.com/a/5Fd6LyD). Obivously the colors are off, I think because I used 4:2:2 and not 4:4:4. The biggest difference is the small particles and color grain. There is also some color blocking and TONS of mosquito noise in my re-encode.
Probably given more time and a slower preset I could've gotten it to 2.5-2.7 GB, but the level of detail in the 8.7 GB version is unmatched. I really don't think you could've gotten it much smaller than 8.7 GB with the amount of detail that is in that movie, not to mention a lot of it isn't flat colors, and there's parts with a lot of small, moving objects (water fish and rain).
I did do a small test with CRF 21 and the slow preset. It was a bit better on the mosquito noise, but in general the quality wasn't there and it was gonna be 4.5-5.0 GB. Another thing to consider: It has a lot of complicated colors/shading and the movie is almost 2 hours long, so I think it's only natural it would be so large.
At the end of the day, most viewers probably won't notice too much of a difference, but for quality freaks like me, I appreciate the quality which others can then re-encode.
I've always seen pairing lossy video with lossless audio as pandering to the faggots who think AAC isn't transparent at any bitrate to their golden ears. Or just being lazy.
If you're going for archival or making a new encode, you'll want the video straight from the BD. The other justification for FLAC would be making remixes or shit from the movie, but let's be honest, nobody's doing that (and the OST is available anyway).
Firstly thanks for the torrent.
Secondly can someone explain to me what does the extra audio files do? Do I keep them? Do I delete them? Can I use them some how? I am talking about the 2 files 2 hours long.
If you put these tracks and videos in one folder, the player automatically selects an external audio track.
Or you can add them to the container in the video (mkv) using mkvtoolnix-gui.
Yup I can add them as a movie audio track, but what are they how are they different from the main audio track? And what's the audio guide?
Sorry for the bother I am new to this and I am on Android
Look at the names of these files and everything will become clear to you. Additional soundtrack 5.1 and another 5.1 with the English version of the main song of the film. Audio - guide - comments for the blind.
This is the correct response for a post in a thread like this announcing the release and sharing of a first rate encode of a wonderful new film by one of the finest directors of Anime yet.
Thank you very much for this fine release I will much enjoy watching how it looks with an english sub as I have only seen it in theatres here in Japan. thank you again for your trouble and for including the full set of attachments. You have been very generous. Please excuse the ranting and unkind posts, it is one of the challenges all creators and facilitators experience using the public internet. Thank you for your hard work.
