[Erai-raws] Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (2020) - 02 [1080p].mkv (1.3 GiB)
Big heads up!
Anyone watching the new Higurashi and and being completely new to the franchise. STOP. go watch the original and it's sequels Kai, Rei and Kira. They had us all fooled. This is not a remake but a sequel! Even Chibi Reviews will spend half of his ep2 review eating his own words from his ep1 review. And so.. the war between Higurashi and Death Note over the kingship of midfuckery continues!

Listen to this gentleman.
And could also watch Kaku Outbreak ova for a full collection.
Thanks for the release!
And also appreciate the heads up guys on helpful background. This series looks interesting enough to do the suggested binge watching of the original material first.
Thank you very much for ripping Higurashi GOU's English subtitled simulcast so fast with the v0, and for all your previous rips. ^_^
Erai-raws made a little mistake when typesetting the show's title in the OP.
It should say "Higurashi: When They Cry GOU" (proper show title, confirmed in episode 2, Funi's tweet when ep 2 premiered with art newly commissioned by Funi/Kadokawa, etc. Also used in Funi's subtitles of episode 2, assuming Erai v0 is a 1:1 rip of Funi's subs, albeit with typesetting issues), not just "Higurashi: When They Cry" (like it did in ep 1).
Before episode 2 the official English title was: "Higurashi: When They Cry - NEW" ("NEW" was not used in the ep 1 Funi subtitles, judging by HorribleSubs ep 1, probably because the JP card just used the regular Higurashi franchise title without any added subtitle like NEW or GOU), from episode 2 on the official English title is "Higurashi: When They Cry GOU".

If you can, I recommend reading the visual novel (read "note" below) or reading the old manga adaptation (officially translated by Yen Press) instead of watching the old anime. The old anime adaptation was very rushed and cuts out on a lot of character development, slice-of-life content. Episode 1 is about 10 hours in the VN, but only 4 TV episodes in the old anime. This kind of screws up the formula of the original work, and misses the point of the story, IMO.
Note: MangaGamer's new English translation of the VN (which includes JP text option), which is on MangaGamer store, GOG or Steam; with or without 07th Mod Japanese voice fan patch (from the console ports, a lot of the dialogue being unused in the console versions IIRC, but being on the PS2 discs anyway), is a good option. Definitely not the Nintendo Switch port which has many issues, including spoiling half of the story at the beginning, which is Japan-only and has no translations. There's also a very good (from what I heard) official French translation of the VN. 07th Mod adds the French translation to the new MangaGamer version, though please support the French translator by buying their release if you can, which has the original minigames, but doesn't have voices (none of the official PC versions have voices).
Big thanks @SakoeraTyan for writing that down. I agree wholeheartedly, in fact, been in the process of sitting down and "starting" the 07th modded VN, which I would also like to recommend istead of the anime version for anyone jumping into this blind (or those who are restarting, even) - the anime being...okay, IIRC, but the VN most probably offering an all-round much better experience from the little time I invested in trying it. Well, you will need a lot more time, but I'm gonna go ahead and assume it'll be worth it.
Now hearing about this 2020 remaster(?) actually being a sequel, hopefully will make me finally really sit my ass down and read through the VN - which has been a long time a'coming... :)
