@EvilEye @Phantom132 glad you like it :)
Was NSDAB's video an HDR -> SDR conversion? Lighting flickers horribly at 33:48 - 33:55 like it couldn't decide on the brightness level to set. I haven't checked lighting in other places, just noticed that immediately when skimming. HTT's video doesn't have this problem. There's also a lot of weird encoding problems like macroblocking (when zoomed in), smudging (loss of detail), and weird over-exaggeration of color which causes vibrant red detail to be added to things (rocks/power lines). Some quick comparison examples. https://slow.pics/c/8QZlgQZh There are places where NSDAB does looks better than HTT, but the same can be said in reverse. Overall I think HTT is slightly better. Subtitles would have to be resynced as well if they are from 23.976 fps releases for NSDAB's 24.000 fps encode, although you might not notice the delay. Also would have been nice to include kuchikirukia's subtitle edits as an alt track. I find it to be the best of all available subs. :( As much as I'd love to replace my HTT archive (w/ kuchikirukia subs) for yours, these issues are concerning.
@Mabby just checked the description of NSDAB and i probably think he didnt use UHD blurays because anyways the HDR is fake.. talking about the subs, i just grabbed it directly from nsdab's release.. didnt knew there were subs of kuchikirukia available... since kuchikirukia is MTBB edit , u can try commie too.. also its your wish as to what u want to keep (HTT or mine) since both have their own merits and demerits
Right, but the flickering would be an actual problem with the encode that should be considered for swapping out the release with a v2. Only the best for archiving. :(
@mabby well,I hope you do know that nsdab's first release was D-Zon3 iirc so I doubt a v2... Also no encode is perfect
No encode may be perfect, but there are encodes that don't have egregious flaws in them. The flickering I'd say is a major red flag and big no-no, even despite the encoding color corruption present in NSDAB.
@Mabby the flickering is only for like 3 seconds.. and the subs are in sync, they have been checked..
Regardless, flickering makes the encode flawed. Makes me wonder where else there may be problems.
Thank you very much!
@Mabby, Your comparisons show absolutely zero "vibrant red" objects nor detail loss. Seems like a case of weeb autism because both the full image and zoom on your regions in view 3 have no difference in color either. Yuri's screenshots actually are just a tad sharper, which imo looks better than your htt screenshots.
@BillBoyTM Just because you aren't that observant doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist. Also not sure why you would @ me over a year later on a torrent that has been superseded by other releases which also use NSDAB. ![link](https://i.imgur.com/857vF9f.png) ![link2](https://i.imgur.com/JodPGW5.png) As for flickering, the problem is very much real and is an encoding flaw from bad HDR -> SDR conversion splicing. See [comment chain](https://archive.ph/da3hg#com-9) for info. As for other issues in NSDAB, it has lots of aliasing, haloing, ringing, and color fringing all over the place. While it may have some slightly better detail retention here and there (from the ITA BD), the encoding script has problems that other releases tried to filter better. Do your own comparisons if you care enough, or not. Just to show you another extreme example, zoom in & take a look at the left side of this comparison where you can see what looks like chromatic aberration banding rings. My guess is it might be from trying to remove the green tint but it bleeds through in various places and has some added red in the rings. The same kind of added red fringing found in other places. https://slow.pics/c/4oAtOqw2 NSDAB is full of these random problems in frames, especially ones angled, sometimes resulting in detail loss / smudged from distant slants such as the scene with the pencil drawings on the wall. The question is, how many different "small" encoding issues stacking up will people find acceptable before it's finally no longer the recommended encode to use? Personally, I find the flickering alone enough of a problem to strike it out from the running.
the grey cloud transition scenes are so grainy for a 9GB 1080p movie
