@TNCruz: You're Welcome!
@pwhodges: Do you know what you're talking about? FLAC isn't "truly lossless", it's compressed in order to save space in your hard drive. But, not in the same way lossy music is compressed music (You could compare FLAC to being a .zip file). However, when you compare a FLAC file to a WAV file, there is barely a difference (because there barely is any). However, because WAV is uncompressed it has a bigger file size, that's why people prefer FLAC over WAV. What is "truly lossless" are .WAV and .AIFF files. I've included both because people might prefer WAV over FLAC because of its "truly lossless" nature, or FLAC over WAV because of its smaller file size. I wanted this to be a complete digitization of everything in the box set: CDs, scans, and metadata, and it's going to stay that way.
Instead of editing your log to remove your computer username, you should probably just relocate your flac.exe executable..
Edited logs with no checksums are uh... strange.
Also recommend png scans if you ever do anything in the future.
The front booklet scan looks pretty strange to me (text is very blurry compared to the scan on vgmdb)
@CoolMan513 FLAC is lossless compression, while WAV is lossless uncompressed. WAV will always have max size, while with FLAC the quieter a sound file it is, the smaller it will be.
Both of them are identically lossless, which makes WAV meaningless indeed.
@CoolMan513 I could ask you the same question. All FLAC does is put a gate & fences around the audio data which also reduces its footprint. WAV just means there's no obstacles to that playback.
Or to put it another way, WAV is an unfolded scroll while FLAC is the folded scroll that has to be unfolded to read it. No difference whatsoever so lossless compression is 100% lossless.
You technically can't even apply the term "lossless" to uncompressed PCM if only for the fact that "Lossy" & "Lossless" are strictly meant to denote the 2 types of audio compression whereas PCM is straight-up the original data.
If people want WAV they can use a converter, no point increasing the size of your torrent for nothing.
Additionally, not only should you not edit logs, but you should always rip to a directory outside of your system that isn't too long, that way you won't have any privacy concerns with your username at all.
@Sheldonsuckz hey thanks for the pointers and criticism, I needed it. I don't know why I edited the logs, those are for proving the validity of the cds (correct me if I'm wrong). It was pretty stupid to do that. I'll rip the files to an external hard drive to make it be able to not read my main memory. As for the checksum, I didn't delete it, but it was something that happened on my end, so I will fix it next week. Next time, I will make the scans pngs. I also checked the png of the front booklet, it is pretty blurry, like you said. I was just trying to make it to where you could see the front of the booklet. So I'll fix that too. Again, thanks for the advice.
@Leonhart_EX - Your right in flac being loseless compressed and wav being loseless uncompressed. That's also true in what you said with the wav having the the max size and the quieter the song is in flac, the lower its bitrate is. And yes, they are both identically loseless. Though, I wouldn't call wav useless, just bloated (is that the right word? Also, this is my opinion), but I should respect your opinion as well if you fell that way.
@Somahair No problem
@T_F_C12 Hey, thanks for the criticism, I needed a slap in the face. The gate and fence & scroll sentences, I think I know what you meant, but I'm also pretty stupid. I think I mentioned that (in a way) to where I compared flac to a .zip file, in where its compressed to where its the exact same audio as a wav, but its has a lower file size without losing audio quality or losslessness (correct me if I'm wrong). You're right in WAV being straight up the original data and I think you convinced me into thinking wav ISN'T lossless (this isn't a bad thing mind you). You're probably right in making the file size smaller, I just don't know what I was thinking. I originally wanted it two separate torrents (one for wav and one for flac), but now then I thought of doing it in one package (with wav and flac), which now that I think about now, isn't such a great idea. As for the logs, yeah I know I was pretty stupid to edit them. Im going to use a external drive next time, thanks for the advice.
One more thing does anybody know if I could change files in this torrent (sounds pretty stupid, I know). I just don't want to delete this page to seem more of an asshole than I already am.
However, if the answer is no, I might have a solution. I'll do a poll to where you guys can vote on if you guys want the rip in flac, wav, or both but in seperate torrents (don't worry all options come with scans and the metadata for the music files), deleting this thread in the process (still sounds bad, I know). But thats all I can think up right now. I would also like to add that the poll will happen if the answer is yes or no to the question above (or if you guys have any other ideas. I'm willing to hear them out).
You can't change files in torrents, but no prob, we don't even have to download the full thing however that means your torrent can't be seeded to completion.
Also you can do a re-rip & post a file sharing link here.
Another thing, WAV/AIFF are basically neither "lossy" nor "lossless", just the source material for both types of compression. The latter brings you back to the source material while the former doesn't.
@T_F_C12 Thanks for response. I'll think I'll go for the re-rip. Also, yeah, you're right, WAV/AIFF are the source material, but I didn't know about what you said second sentence. You learn something new every day.
Also here's the poll for the re-rip. I'll check the results during the middle of the week next week. The re-rip should be up by Friday.
