Here's why:** - I don't know Chinese - the original TLs (2 Chinese fans on YouTube) are not great at English - this is my first time using aegisub - only hardsubbed video is available (until Netflix release) - I lost motivation once I thought about how it was destined to be shit due to the above factors - I'm retarded **Almost every line of the original translation has been rewritten to:** - fix spelling and grammar mistakes - remove subtitles for sounds which are easily discernable across languages ("hahaha!", "aaaa!", etc.) - remove "comment" subtitles in which Runlong gives their thoughts on a situation, makes their own jokes, complains about not being able to speak bird, etc. - add MTL of a few small lines and "important" signs which were not originally included (still some missing) - replace some names with the more official English translations, though a few character names are only romanized (Flyers Clan -> Flying Bird Sect, etc.) - fit reading length to voice lines better where possible - suit percieved attitudes of characters slightly better (doubt I did well with this) - read more naturally in general **Some other changes:** - typeset title sequence and a few random signs (extremely poorly, and most still have 0 typesetting because I gave up) - completely retimed to mostly cover the Chinese hardsubs (infinitely better than original timings, but still not good) - added chapters **Stupid notes nobody cares about:** - I had to rewrite a wordplay joke in episode 5 that didn't translate. I'm not funny. - I went with "chi" as requested by a few people I asked. Names including a similar sound (Qing Feng) I left as-is. - episode 7 required a lot of "guesswork" and rewriting to feel "ok" in English, I'm sure it's awful - at the end of episode 10 I believe "Sister" is used as "members of the same sect" rather than an actual sister. I'm too stupid to think of an alternative. - there are probably still grammatical errors and lines that feel unnatural because I'm retarded Typesetting, timing, knowing the language, etc. are not important parts of the fansubbing process anyway.
