**Notes:**
I know SCY has already made a great release for S1, however, there is nothing for the Director's Cut.
Remux using Beatrice-Raws release with Astral's subtitles and chapters.
Episode 8's subtitles and chapters were manually retimed. Rest of the episodes were in sync.
Oh boi I wonder what happened here. I really want to watch the Director's Cut but Jensen completely botched the encode this time. The amount of banding here is absolutely crazy. Did he not deband at all?
Also this encode is a lot blurrier than SCY or even Beatrice's encode for the non DC version.
There is also mild ringing everywhere.
I really want to watch the DC due to the improvements in the animation but boi is this difficult.
@vikrant9760 I have uploaded a patch for the episode and updated the description. I'm so sorry that I didn't see your message earlier, it would've been fixed right away. Try to reach out to my Discord next time if there are any issues.
This is the third time I am writing to you. Please show screenshots or timecodes where you found the banding in my encode as I don't see anything like it, lol.
@Jensen
>This is the third time I am writing to you
Sorry about that, I did not know since nyaa does not have a notification system.
>Please show screenshots or timecodes where you found the banding in my encode as I don’t see anything like it, lol.
Okay so I randomly opened an episode. I'm talking about these lines you can see in the eyes [here](https://i.slow.pics/QljiI4QP.png). They also appear quite often in dark areas like [here](https://i.slow.pics/AcDjo5PS.png) on Subaru's face. These happen a lot in the forest areas. Time-cues are episode 13 - 21.26.327 and 17.58.119. If you want I can take a bunch of screenshots the next time I re-watch and send to you on discord.
Though it could be a problem with the source since I keep hearing everyone say that DC BDs are worse than 2016 ones though I have not personally checked them out.
It's clear. Thanks for the answer. Well, yes, you are right, apparently in several places there was not enough debanding power.

But I just watched the episodes. There are very few such scenes (literally 2 - 3 seconds in several episodes), so I don't think this is a big problem. You just wrote your post as if there was no deband applied in my encoding at all. I set it so that banding was suppressed as much as possible in all episodes, but details were preserved as much as possible and, apparently, in those frames that you gave as an example, this was not enough. https://slow.pics/c/EJkSM8y8 Well, if I ever redo the director's cut, I'll take your comments into account.
Regarding the different quality of the DC and the standard version: Director’s Cut edition is an upscale from 720 to 1080 using bilinear interpolation. This type of interpolation causes strong blurring of line art. Because of this, it seems to the ordinary viewer that he is worse (in many ways, this is why many praise Mozzie's encoding). However, the blurring of the DC version does a good job of hiding all the bicubic interpolation errors in the 2016 version (less ringing, etc.), so I wouldn't say it's worse than the 2016 version. It's just different. People applying the Sharp effect to the Re Zero encoding only make the situation worse - for example, the ringing becomes much stronger. https://slow.pics/c/x1sMO2js
A little more about stripes in this type of source materials: you always have 2 ways, the first is to add a lot of grain, this completely removes stripes and small details of the image and textures. The second one (which I use) is tweaking the debunding filter to preserve as much background and texture detail as possible while removing stripes. The disadvantage of this method is that scenes with strong streaks have to be searched for and corrected manually. But the result is worth it. https://slow.pics/c/CIy2Qbnh https://slow.pics/c/bt5Bivhd
In any case, the choice is up to the viewer.
@Astral yeah, I had the original version of the subs that you made for episode 8, and apparently you didn't include the OP. I didn't realize that there was a patch/updated version for that specific episode.
As with the other seasons/releases, I have created modified subs to fix some annoyances/mistakes inherited from DDY. I'm not sure where to get Astral's latest subs from, maybe they have some changes already besides the missing OP.
https://www.mediafire.com/file/tkb6dbfxcefop91/rzs1dc.7z/file
Changes made:
twixter -> shut-in
Balse -> Barusu
Li'l Bea -> Beako
Betelgeuse -> Petelgeuse
!? -> ?!
Changed dialogue font colors to black.
Added missing OP for episode 8. Font for the OP is in the fonts subfolder. MPC-HC out of the box will load external fonts from that folder along with external subs located in the same folder. MPV might require some configuration. You can also install the font or mux it in with the sub.
Looks like there is one more mistake I missed, Roswaal's honorific was changed compared to the others, official subs had it correct:
Emilia-tan
Rem-rin
Ram-chi
Roscchi -> Ros-chi
https://www.mediafire.com/file/h2dyqfxdn23bh84/rzs1dc-2.7z/file
If you are only interested in the honorifics fix, it's episodes 3, 4, and 6.
