I thought I'd take a page from Dodgy's book and upload an old Toei yakuza movie: the rare 1976 Sonny Chiba film, "Jail Breakers." This is the old MovieTime release, which was ripped from the UK DVD edition of this film. It is restored & remastered, but not to the degree that we're used to seeing today, since the rip is so old. It is still a softsub mkv though, so it has that going for it, and the subtitles are professionally done, so that's another plus. In this film, a group of mercenaries make a living by breaking rich convicts out of prison, getting paid to do it, and then turning them loose on the populous to pull their dirty deeds again. When the team of "jail breakers" attempts to bust out their latest quarry, Sonny Chiba hitches a ride on their helicopter, and they realize they've rescued the wrong guy! After several attempted double-crosses by Chiba, he agrees to pay off his debt to them by working alongside their group, which leads to more 1970's Toei-style action, gunfights, car chases, and the karate that Chiba was best known for. Chiba also gets a love interest in this one that he isn't sleeping with in the first 5 minutes, and the film's plot is extremely well-written and will keep you guessing as to who's going to double-cross who next. "Jail Breakers" is nearly forgotten in the huge back catalog of movies that Sonny and Toei made in the 70's, but it is definitely worth seeing at least once for fans of Chiba and fans of Toei Yakuza movies. Enjoy this rare piece of Japanese cinematic history, and be sure to seed for a while after you're done!
