Here is episode #2 of Uchuu Senkan Yamato III with new English subtitles and a brand-new encode! Special thanks goes out to Ratman, who was kind enough to upload the R2J ISOs of Yamato III to Nyaa for my use, and to new team member Peaklet, a very knowledgeable encoder, who gave Yamato III a whole new HEVC 10-bit treatment that really makes that early 80's animation shine. The subtitle script came from kitsunekko, and I translated it, re-timed it to the new raw, and gave it some old-school-style subs. In this episode, we meet the Garman Empire, who are encroaching into Earth's territory in an attempt to conquer the entire galaxy. General Dagon, the Garman fleet commander, will become a recurring foe in future episodes. In this one, however, he's busy flexing his muscles against the Basu fleet of Captain Ram, who is vastly under-powered and undermanned, and just can't get an edge on the Garman's superior weapons. On Earth, Dr. Sato reunites with the Yamato crew, and the flashy new pilot, Takeshi Ikihara, is sent back home by the influence of his father in a power play to make Takeshi the heir to his father's business conglomerate. With an ailing mother in the hospital and the fate of the Earth on the line, which way will Takeshi go? And as for Professor Saimon, the guy who discovered this entire hot mess, he's got a surprise coming his way too... Just a note about the translation: I made the decision to change "Battleship" to "Cruiser" because "Battleship" was too long for the subtitles. "Cruiser" still falls in line with the canon, as that's how the Japanese series was titled in the original Star Blazers credits. The only other changes were small edits to make some lines fit the subs, and make them easier to read. I hope you enjoy this rare piece of anime history, and be sure to seed for a while after you're done! Thanks Down the line it'd be nice if the Director's Cut of Yamato Resurrection could get subbed. Currently only the theatrical is subbed

@MD_Prometh: I'll look into it and see if I could sub it for a future project. Right now I'm busy with Yamato III and Fuun Lion Maru, plus the occasional indie toku special. I took this entire week off to catch up on e-mails and real life stuff; my brain was kinda fried. Oh, and you're welcome for the fansub, you can expect episode #3 soon!
Nice, can't wait for more. Out of curiosity, if it possible if you could add subs to the signs please? The CA subs for seasons 1 and 2 sub the signs. Oh and if possible, could you slightly increase the sub size?

@MD_Prometh: I can definitely increase the sub size, that's not an issue. I'm glad you said something! As for subbing the signs, the subtitle scripts I'm using for this don't include translations for the signs, and my kanji is pretty bad, so I can't help in that department. I'm sorry about that, but when it comes to something this old (and the sub scripts were free), you gotta work with whatever you find.
https://www.onlineocr.net OCRing can be quite useful for getting the text. https://jisho.org This is quite a useful site for sorting through kanji. DeepL can also be helpful from what I've tried. Just some ideas.
Already wrote in previous episode's comments but really happy you're working on these, hope you'll do all of it. As others stated, it would be nice if you could also give this treatment to the Yamato movies, most notably the second half of Dark Nebula Empire arc (Be Forever). Though to be honest the subs for the first half (New Voyage) and Final Yamato are a bit spotty too so if you'd ever want to clean those up, it would be nice of you.
@MrAnon: I apologize for this late reply; I've been out of the loop for a month or two due to hardware & ISP issues. Yes, I am definitely doing the entire series of Yamato 3, but the movies may be a little too much for me right now, as I have another anime I'm timing & a joint project coming up soon. Once Yamato 3 is done, I'll take a look at the movies and get back to you. Episode #3 is translated, it just needs some edits & a little re-timing and it'll be good to go. Thanks for commenting, it means a lot!
