Okay, so, I used the official subs from the NA version with the video and audio source from the JP version, because that was the best version I could find combined with the best version I could find.
I restyled the subs so they wouldn't be that piss yellow that everyone traditionally made DVD/BD subs as a joke, which requires converting PGS to ASS. Which would be necessary regardless, because I will delete a torrent I just finished downloading just because I found out it uses PGS subs. Kill it with fire. Seriously, *always* mention what format the subs are in when you post a subbed torrent here.
[Actually, I restyled them in exactly the way I always style the SRT/DFXP-ASS conversions I do whenever I download something that uses SRT or DFXP.]
Anyway, the OCR screwed up pretty badly, thanks in part to the font they decided to use. So I ended up having to rewrite massive chunks of the subs by hand. Good times.
And yes, the OCRed, ASS-converted official subs that are already uploaded are really screwed up, to ridiculous extremes on some episodes. Clearly no one bothered to check them.
Encoding the videos was the easy part.
Video: 1080p x265 10-bit (HEVC main10)
Audio: Japanese (Opus)
Subtitles: English (ASS)
P.S. There is probably some stuff I didn't catch when I was going through and fixing the subs. Expect the occasional typo or weird spacing. It shouldn't be any worse than the average v1 fansub, but anyone used to the updated fixed subs typical of a more popular show's BluRay batch should keep this in mind.
Note I'm pretty sure the fansubs for this show were based on a machine translation.
I have Gundam X on hand just because I have never gotten around to watching that one, and it's currently high on my list. It's [this version](https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1340183). I have not done anything to it at all. I normally at least remux most batch torrents I download, but this was one of the unusual ones where there was nothing *objectively* wrong with the way it was already muxed. I'm a little confused why it needed both the piss-yellow PGS and the ASS conversion of the same subtitles included at the same time though. And why the PGS version is set to default. If I were to do a reencode (for public release, I reencode anything I keep long-term that doesn't already have a good HEVC version just to save space), I'd probably use [this one](https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1046332).
