@ golgoth-13 : THANKS FOR YOU FEEDBACK 1. Japanese subtitles ARE UNOFFICIAL ASS SUB , I RENDER IT TO SUP. (BLURAY PGS SUB). 2. GERMAN 4K BD IS USED AS SOURCE OF THIS RELEASE. 3. THERE ARE SOME CROPPING IN BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE (COMPARE TO FHD BDMV JPN) , IT'S ABOUT 14 PIXELS IN 1080P (14L,14R), IT'S ACCEPTABLE FOR ME. 4. FOR Paprika, [VCB-Studio'S RELEASE](https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1292871) IS GOOD FOR ME, I'M KEEPING IT, I THINK THERE WILL BE NO GOA RELEASE. MAYBE YOU CAN CHECK THAT. 5. "Metropolis (2001, movie) remastered version UK BD " DOSE NOT LOOK LIKE A REMASTERED ONE, IT LOOKS LIKE A BLACK BOEDER CUTTING, COLOR-REGRADING ONE. DO YOU HAVE ANY INFO ABOUT IT'S A "remastered version" ? LEAVE ME A LINK. *** *** *** @ motbob: ``` The 4K remaster is fake, so there is no point to this. The 4K version is just an upscaled, brightened, cropped, and motion-corrected mangling of the 2K version. ``` IF IT IS 2K FILM SCANED(SCANNER) AS YOU SAY , THERE IS NO 2K BLURAY RELEASED, THIS UPSCALED 4K VERSION SHOULD HAS MORE DETAILS (UPSCALE 2K TO 4K DOSE NOT LOSE DETAILS , I THINK..., WHICH DOWNSCALING 2K TO 1080P DOSE.) THE FILM TAPE IS NOT 16:9 , GENERALLY IT IS 4:3. SO THEY ARE ALWAYS CROPPED. I DID NOT SEEING ANY 'motion-corrected' ISSUSE, IF YOU FIND IT , PLEASE LEAVE ME A LINK TO SCREENSHOT , THANKS.( THIS IS SOMETHING UNACCEPTABLE) EVEN THOUGH, THE 4K RELEASE HAS HIGHER BITRATE.(DOWN BELOW) ANYWAY, I DID NOT CHECK THE FHD BLURAY DISK YET . IF FHD BLURAY IS BETTER , I MIGHT UPLOAD THAT IN THE FUTURE. THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENT, IT IS REALLY HELPFUL. NOW I AM AWARED OF THERE COULD BE SOME PROTENTIAL ISSUSES. ``` Format/Info : Blu-ray Video File size : 50.6 GiB Duration : 1 h 26 min Overall bit rate mode : Variable Overall bit rate : 83.8 Mb/s Maximum Overall bit rate : 109 Mb/s Video ID : 4113 (0x1011) Menu ID : 1 (0x1) Format : HEVC Format/Info : High Efficiency Video Coding Format profile : Main [email protected]@High Codec ID : 36 Duration : 1 h 26 min Width : 3 840 pixels Height : 2 160 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate : 24.000 FPS Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 (Type 2) Bit depth : 10 bits Writing library : ATEME Titan File 3.9.7 (4.9.7.0) Color range : Limited Color primaries : BT.709 Transfer characteristics : BT.709 Matrix coefficients : BT.709 ``` *** ## RESAMPLED FROM 4K BLURAY DISK ## 2160P TO 1080P (BICUBIC) ### BTW, GENERALLY I DO NOT RESAMPLE 4K BLURAYS TO 1080P, I PREFER BDMV. The 4K remaster is fake, so there is no point to this. The 4K version is just an upscaled, brightened, cropped, and motion-corrected mangling of the 2K version.

Japanese subtitles seem to be out of sync by a little, it is strange but not uncommon as I've noticed the same in some different movies (like Royal Space Force, in Kagura and GOA releases). Thank you for saving us 60 GiB. ^^ I believe there's a 1080p US BD, if I refer to this: https://slow.pics/c/JoeKWVOC Cornflower Studio made a release from a 1080p French BD. It is 23.976 fps, has french credits hard codded during the opening, two Japanese 2.0 and 5.1 audios, and two french PGS subtitles tracks (one being useless). Your release is sharper than Cornflower Studio's. Lines in his release are softened by a denoise filter I guess, while yours stays true to the source. Your release and Cornflower Studio's have the same color mapping than the GBR/UK 4K and the German 4K. The US BD has a different color mapping - could we assume that it is wrong? Therefore, I wonder if it is worth to make an encode of it. Personnaly I don't know what to think of the remastered version of Millennium Actress in general. Like mentionned by motbob, the savage cropping bugs me a lot, despite the colors and brightness are much better. I used to watch the Japanese version, using some video adjustments in MPV to try to get close to it, but I cannot get the hue to match. Probably the best would be someone would get a hand on some BDMV of the original Japanese 1080p release, and we should hire someone like Judgment who would make color correction of it.
> THEN I CAN ADD IT TO MY TO-DO LIST. - Paprika (2006, movie) remastered version - I guess it is a GBR/UK BD, if you want to keep on the Satoshi Kon topic. Like Tokyo Godfathers, it is 1920 pixels horizontally, and not windowed as it was in the original. - Metropolis (2001, movie) remastered version UK BD - you made a release from the Japanese version. It appears there's a UK version, it is 1920 pixels horizontally (not windowed like the Japanese one). Here on this US release, looking at the screen shots, the picture appears to be 1920p horizontally as well: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Metropolis-Blu-ray/162474/#Review Color gradation is quite different: blacks are far less crushed (the opening scene with the zeppelin traveling through the screen before the title, appears totally different), and also the blues are more electric, more intense (this can be noticed in the second picture of above review linked).
> GERMAN 4K BD IS USED AS SOURCE OF THIS RELEASE. This is good to know. Hence the tone-mapping matching. > THERE ARE SOME CROPPING... (COMPARE TO FHD BDMV JPN) , IT’S ABOUT 14 PIXELS IN 1080P (14L,14R), IT’S ACCEPTABLE FOR ME. I don't know... really. I will probably keep the two versions for this movie until I make up my mind. ^^ > FOR Paprika, VCB-Studio’S RELEASE IS GOOD FOR ME, I’M KEEPING IT, I THINK THERE WILL BE NO GOA RELEASE. I like their version also. ;) Since it is a UK BluRay as source, the extras they are providing have original Eng subs, which is unusual and very satisfying, making the whole pack to be worth. So you're probably right, a GOA release could hardly bring something new - but I was trying to pick up your interest if maybe you wanted to bring something different.
> "Metropolis (2001, movie) remastered version UK BD " IS ON THE WAY. DO YOU HAVE ANY INFO ABOUT IT’S A “remastered version” ? Not at all. My words may spread some disinformation. I never read anything about a "remastered" version of Metropolis, could it be some official information or someone writing here or in another forum. This is just my guess as I've been across this release: https://nyaa.iss.one/view/894584 This release went totally under the radar, I guess because of the non romanized title. Therefore, no one ever mentioned about the video being very different of every other releases around. But you know, Metropolis is like Roujin Z, they are films that don't get the love they deserve. There are many people who have something to argue about every Evangelion release, but no one cares about films of this kind... I just guessed it went through some remastering process due to the video so much different in some scenes, especially the dark areas getting more information, and blue tints popping out. For the last, I don't know if it can be considered faithful to the intent of the creator, but during my viewing it made the picture more vibrant, compared to the normal version which then seemed more dull and oldish, with a yellow cast. I assume it may be a personal point of view, but never before I had such feeling of viewing some scenes to be different because they get more attention. The previous release is fine in its own, because of no alternatives. Even the extras have Eng subtitles. My concern is that the lines in his release may be altered by the denoising filter he tends to use every time, which I find to be very aggressive (in every of his releases) to the artwork (smoothing lines and textures) compared to some other denoise processes. I wanted to pick up your interest, because as I noticed your Millennium Actress release is sharper, true to the source, I wonder what it would make for Metropolis in this UK or US version.
I didn't watch the film yet, but I have noticed: JPN subs need ~5200ms backwards to be synced at the end of the film. They only need ~500ms backwards to be synced at the beginning (very loosely, because their timing seems so-so to start with). CHI subs need ~4700ms backwards to be synced at the end. They seem properly synced at the beginning. ENG subs are synced from start to the end. I don't know if it's due to something about the FPS here being 24 because of the 4K source, compared to usual 23.976 of standard BluRay, but the viewing of the film with JPN or CHI subs may not be pleasant for someone who needs them. I don't know if it would be the subs to modify or the film to be decelerated. I can see that this release is almost synced with Kagura release (JPN BD) at the beginning, while at the end of the movie, the last line is said at ~01:22:00 in GOA and ~01:22:05 in Kagura (JPN BD). Therefore, one of the two movies may not be at the right speed. I remember that for Kagura's release of Venus Wars from the old ITA BluRay, he said that the FPS was decelerated to normal. Maybe because of some similar concern about speed from the source not set as it should...
Answering to myself, I read somewhere that, from a consumer level, it is not advised to stretch the audio, as it could be to switch the FPS from 24 to 23.976 for the video. Therefore, the Eng subtitles suit the video, because they came with it in the source. The Jpn and Chi do not fit because they were added and were made for the classic release with 23.976 FPS. Sometimes, less is more. I am totally fine with the following Millennium Actress release by GOA with no subtitles in it--like I am with every GOA release that came without. They are usually a plus when they were part of the source, so they fit perfectly. Best examples seem to be Space Dandy, Cyber City Oedo and the Ghibli collection.
