Back for a little treat! I never finished G-Reco, so I figured why not make myself a version of the movies. I'm pretty much a devout Plex user now, so I've moved on from H.264 10-bit and over to HEVC in order to take advantage of hardware decoding (and indeed, 10-bit AVC was never decoded by almost anything). A lot of the encodes I've done through the years are basically useless for hardware devices, and though I know many won't care about that, that's what you get here. To also assist in hardware playback, I've included an SRT version of the subtitles here on top of the original PGS subs. Sorry, this is a quickie, so I'm not putting in the time for proper ASS subs. A few tests did go into this. First off, the image quality of G-Reco leaves a lot to be desired. Whatever method they used to composite the lineart onto the digital traces resulted in a messy appearance from the start, and being a 720p production, a lot of the line work just looks disgusting in its original state. The obvious solution was a Debilinear -> NNEDI3 Rescale approach, and I actually tested this out years ago on the first G-Reco episode as a proof of concept. This is what I ended up going with here, along with a very, very modest denoise and dither to clean up some of the mastering noise that the BDMV had. I had actually tried taking the Debilineared output into Topaz AI and upscaling to 1080p in there, and honestly, the results were very nice, but the processing time was just not something I was willing to go through for 5 movies (about 7.5 hours per movie), so the standard NNEDI3 upscale was used here instead. The NNEDI3 approach at least anti aliases the remaining 1080p credits and logos, which are hideously aliased in the original. The Fire Stick 4k devices support Hi10P in hardware. The plain 4k Stick needs information on color space and range on the video header info (which most modern encodes seem to have), but the 4K Max has better support and also works with some TV raw sourced or order Hi10P videos too.
