This was an encode I did for myself to learn AV1, sort of in celebration of the manga finally ending. I went on here to search for another release to compare my results to only to find that apparently nobody else has released this in AV1 yet, which surprised me as it was a fairly well-liked series when it came out (I thought), so I’m putting this up in case anyone else who likes the show and keeps a copy around wants to save some space.
I considered using the aom fork with weeb tunings but ultimately I decided I wanted to see what mainline aom 3.6.0 could do in terms of compression efficiency, and I’m pretty happy with the quality/filesize tradeoff of the result. My goal was to get less than 200 MB total filesize on each episode and I hit that; easily on some episodes.
YMMV depending on how autistic you are about pixels. I watched every episode after encoding and didn’t notice anything even on the small side, much less anything that could qualify as eye-cancer.
Since this was a hobby thing and very likely a one-off for me (who knows), feedback will probably be disregarded. Feel free to leave it if you want anyway.

Although episode numbers are off in filenames, but OK in each file metadata as “title” field.
Ep.10-13 are labeled “2-5”, Ep.2-9 are “6-13”.
I renamed the files on my disk as follows, with CRC32 just in case since renaming anyway:

Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. I just checked my source directory for the torrent (that I’m seeding from) and everything is fine. Episode 1 as named is Episode 1 etc. I actually double-clicked on each file just to be sure. On my Linux and Windows PCs, mpv played the correct episode per the filename each time. Also checked on my MacBook, and Infuse played the correct episode in relation to the filename each time as well. So… wtf? I think your torrent client messed something up, or your organization software (if you use any) did.
