This release includes two sub tracks: default “eng” with no romaji for songs or honorifics (Master Utena, Madam Nanami), and “enm” with romaji for songs and honorifics (Utena-sama, Nanami-san). Please set your media player preferences accordingly. Honorifics are adapted as appropriate in the default track. For instance, Anthy’s “Utena-sama” is translated as “Master Utena”, while Wakaba’s is adapted as “Utena, my love” or a similar, contextually appropriate translation. Honorifics such as “-kun” or “-senpai” are adapted wherever possible (episode 3 honorifics track: Tenjou Utena-kun; episode 3 default track: my dear Tenjou Utena) but left out when there’s no good way to adapt them (honorifics track: Tenjou-senpai; default track: Tenjou). A couple of lines are consequently translated a little differently between the two sub tracks. There are also a couple of lines that are slightly more localized in the default track (episode 15 honorifics track: “Squeak-squeak! Oh, Nezutarou, you’re a genius!”; episode 15 default track: “Squeak-squeak! Oh, Mousimilian, you’re a genius!”).
DDL for the subs available under releases in my repository as muxed .mks files or unmuxed .ass files.
Patches for the v1s to the versions batched here (v4 for episode 1, v3 for episode 8, v2 for everything else).
Patches for individual episodes that had received patches before:

Patch for episode 1 v3 -> v4
Patch for episode 8 v2 -> v3
Background for this project in the original release post for the first cour
This was supposed to be out almost four months ago, but better late than never. Contains corrections and tweaks across all episodes other than the two that are unchanged from their individual releases. Early episodes were more heavily QC’d so they generally contain more changes. I wanted to include include 2.0 audio (since this release only includes 5.1 audio from the encode used) but because the very first thing I checked with 2.0 audio (the movie) had different sound mixing and created timing differences for at least one line at the start of the movie and necessitated its own dedicated subtitle track(s) timed to it, I opted against scope creeping for the time being since I’d have to rewatch every episode with 2.0 audio and check for differences. I think the TV series is much less likely than the movie to have any mixing differences, but I’m not taking chances. I hope to include it with the final batch. I may also make 1080p-compatible subs available at the end of the project for use with either this encode or whatever the best-looking raws are when the time comes. No promises, though.
For now, here’s our subs for the first two arcs of the show with some more polish. Work on the Apocalypse Arc has been underway for quite a while, even if progress has been slow. No promises for when episode 25 will be out, or for when we’ll reach episode 39 and the movie.
Until next time, this is Chu-Chu signing off.

Thank you for your hard work!

The 2.0 track on the HD Remastered DVD/BD is a downmix of 5.1 remix. Sound effects are different from the original mix that can be found on LD, 1999 R2J DVD, CPM R1 DVD, etc. Don’t know if there are line timing differences. Afaik the only rip with original audio is a poorly encoded .ogm rip on Pirate Bay uploaded by Hagaren777.

Honestly even if it’s late I’m still happy it’s out, thanks for putting in the effort to make it this far!

@scav what about 2004 italian dvds
scav
Should be original mix with PAL speedup perhaps. The 5.1 remix was introduced with the 2008 HD Remastered R2J DVD.

It’s on u2
validusername16
the italian dvds sound like complete trash i checked, the current best consistent source i found readily available online since nobody uploaded the r1s or old r2j isos and preserved them was an old like 128k vorbis encode of the r1s.

Oo this is cool.
Are there any plans to fix the subs for the Utena movie?
One other anime that could use fixed subs is FFVII Advent Children Complete, all the Blu-ray releases have dubtitles.
GalaxyU
I like this, but could someone please release this as HEVC? Also, any updates on an estimate regarding the release of the last part?
