Aergia
remux has the wrong chroma location set
Asakura
@Aergia what does that mean exactly?
scav
I’m not seeing anything out of the ordinary. ffprobe shows that chroma location on episode 1 MKV is set to left just like the original M2TS, which is correct for Blu-ray.
Aergia
The authoring company forgot to shift the chroma when converting to 4:2:0 subsampling which results in a center chroma location.
The BDMV’s left-aligned chroma is wrong due to this.
The chroma location tag can be fixed losslessly with ffmpeg’s bitstream filters but the remuxer didn’t bother.
scav
I see what you mean after splitting a screenshot to YCbCr components in GIMP. Chroma location looks correct after doing the fix with ffmpeg bitstream filter.
Aergia
This is the most scuffed way possible of checking but whatever works I guess
uly
Can anyone provide the proper ffmpeg command line to change the chroma_sample_position?
scav
Something like this should do:
ffmpeg -i “input.mkv” -c copy -map 0 -bsf:v h264_metadata=chroma_sample_loc_type=1 “output.mkv”

@Aergia the wrong “chroma location set” what problem can cause? When played the colors seem fine to me.
Can it cause problems during ancoding?
