2160p, huh? can anyone tell me what kind of source am i looking at here? is this legit 2160p or an 1080p source fed into some upscaling solution (ESRGAN, Gigapixel, etc.) to make it *look* like one?

Likely from Bilibili. They use traditional upscaling, or sometimes their own CUGAN. Sometimes denoised/sharpened. No anime is produced at 4k, and very little is 1080p. These torrents are allowed on Nyaa because they come from an officially licenced source.

anyway, just checked what bilibili had to offer and... well. they don't seem to hold the rights to distribute the anime, like, at all. their officially licensed anime roster is completely absent of *any* content related to it besides a shitton of user uploads that are already available as of this writing. i'm talking AMVs, "full" songs, entire episodes, promotional material, etc. what i'm saying is, this release wasn't sourced from bilibili. but it *did* come from an officially licensed source all the same. and as i'm currently watching this release, i *am* looking at a genuine 4K image here.
