Uses the new discotek script and dub
TS has been tweaked from the v1
And includes a 3rd version of episode 6 since the USBD has a different crop of it everything else other than that is from the JPBD
Actually, Discotek seems to be doing a really good job with their encoding recently. Just look at the Kimegure Orange Road BDs. I feel like perhaps some of their older encodes might be worse judging by some reviews on Rightstuf. Just because they're smaller file-size doesn't necessarily mean they're worse quality. People are also saying the US Neon Genesis Evangelion BDs are encoded better than the JP ones even with the episodes being over 1GB smaller. Even look at Aniplex BDs that have bitrate maxed out yet has more detail smeared out over Crunchyroll and that's a 6GB down to 1.3GB difference in size per episode. Similar to different groups that share their encodes on here, it all depends on the care taken and correctly optimizing the encoder settings.
>I was under the impression that people love their upscale work and HD transfer jobs.
yeah but most of those don't have a japanese BD release (usually only DVDs or not even that), which is why people like them
>it all depends on the care taken and correctly optimizing the encoder settings
you have to use pretty bad encoder settings in terms of compression to be blu-ray compatible so there's basically no reason to not max out the bitrate. the only reason to make each episode really small is to use less disks.
One of the guys who works for Discotek mentions that they were using the same master used in the JPBD, so there's no way the video quality will magically be better. The JPBD being on more discs does mean higher bitrate, but it's one of those things where the visual difference is so minimal I doubt anyone would notice. There are scans of somewhat blurry 16mm reels after all. For an autistic torrent that's obsessed with "the best possible quality" using the higher bitrate makes sense tho.
Should also mention that for episode 6, not only did Discotek crop it to widescreen properly but they also manually recreated the end credits text which was missing from the JPBD due to it not being on the film and originally being added on the video tape master.
I also vaguely remember hearing that they did some audio restoration work for the 2.0 stereo Japanese audio as well, so that might be slightly higher quality on the USBD too. They are missing the 5.1 sound renewal audio tho.
Anyway this release is really cool cuz it takes all of the strengths of the JPBD and the USBD and puts them together!

lol? discotek's bds for that was terrible
@Aergia You're blind as fuck. No they were not. The JP BD's of KOR were horrible quality compared to what DIscotek did. I'd know I have both. The only good thing about the JP BDMV's were the special live footage that was higher resolution and some non tv size OP and ED.
No need to get your panties in a twist friend. I am aware Discotek's BDs are better than JP for KOR, this doesn't mean they aren't complete fucking garbage though. :)
