This is a smaller and lower quality version of [MTBB] Made in Abyss S2 - The Golden City of the Scorching Sun (BD 1080p).
Video quality comparisons
…Yeah, that seems about right, since episode 1 is 25x smaller.
Since these videos are 10-bit AV1, you should make sure you have a fully updated version of your video player to avoid playback issues, whether it’s MPC, mpv, or VLC.

damn it just destroys the detail

can you two pass them so they can fit on dvds I like to cold store my anime

Have you tried HEVC? I mean the file size is surprisingly small but yeah, the details are noticeably washed out. I don’t mind having the file size only slashed by 50% from the original MTBB encode as long as there’s little to unnoticeable compromise in detail.

codec of the future they said

25x smaller and all that’s lost is a bunch of ugly grain, i’ll take it

And lineart. And actual detail. And entire backgrounds.
Radio
25x smaller and the entire video is fucked to shit. I’ll take it.

I wonder if the reduction of detail can get to the point where you avoid seeing intimate parts of the kids getting molested and maimed. But then no one would watch this masterwork of Japanese science fiction.

When using cq15+, you may get better detail retention with one of the following if you’re not already doing this:
–aq-mode=0 --deltaq-mode=1
–aq-mode=1 --deltaq-mode=0

I’m not using cq15+ except in rare circumstances. But I am always on –aq-mode=0 --deltaq-mode=1 (which I believe is the default) unless stated otherwise.
