**Explanation, short version:** #### Q: What is this? #### A: This project is a complete, frame by frame remake of *Nautilus Story* using the remastered TV series blu-ray footage as a base. #### Q: What is the "Nautilus Story"? #### A: *Nautilus Story* is the 1990 Laserdisc-exclusive recut of *Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water* into 3 two hour movies using exclusively* existing TV footage, with new narration by Noriko Hidaka to tie scenes together. ------------------------ **Long Version:** *Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water* is a great show, but it had a troubled development. Its principal director, Hideaki Anno, stepped down from his duties halfway through production, leading to episodes 23-34 (the "Island arc") to be considered by many fans to be of at least *lesser quality*. When the *Nautilus Story* released on 3 CLV laserdiscs in 1990, found within was a tight retelling of the entire 39 episode TV series in roughly 6 hours, split into 2-hour movies, that not coincidentally omitted the vast majority of episodes 23-34. For whatever reason, the *Nautilus Story* has basically no new footage in its entire 6-hour runtime - the entire thing seems to have been cobbled together from low quality TV series footage. With rare exception, the few unique shots that do exist are either clearly damaged in some way and were replaced in a later release, or are the result of low quality video post processing effects. Many shots that seem unique at first glance were made by reordering frames from elsewhere in the TV footage. As a result, only two small shots were unable to be recovered, reconfigured, or recreated - a total of 11.97 seconds of footage. Well, except for the OP and ED segments, which featured a new title card & a lack of karaoke text unique to Nautilus Story, and 60i scrolling video credits respectively. The goal of this project was originally just to subtitle the *Nautilus Story* into English so that longtime fans of the series would be able to have an alternative viewing experience that omits the island arc and perhaps gives a glimpse into Director Anno's vision of what the series could have been. As always happens. feature creep took over and the scale grew immensely until we got here today. The footage was cut together, painstakingly, frame by frame, aligned with the LD footage the entire time. We used Avisynth+ (don't ask why) and constructed the entire gestalt using the resulting video with the aligned digital audio taken from the laserdiscs. It wasn't easy - in fact, every time sailing became smooth, a new hole appeared - so it is exclusively thanks to a dedicated team that we were able to accomplish this task. We hope it will be to everyone's standards. And one final note: As we constructed this using Avisynth, anyone else would be able to do the same with access to the scripts, raw source files, and necessary plugins. As such we will also release the files necessary for fans of a particular disposition that are convinced that they could do it better, or more to their personal tastes. Have at it. **[You can grab it here.](https://drive.google.com/file/d/17e0aMT4peRjCo0aXusBBtMc5VtOpM0dM/view?usp=sharing)** --------------------------------- **Credits**: Project Lead of Many Hats: Kaixe Rho Scene matching: Gunlord Timing, translation porting: Gunlord Translation Assistance: Tougewolf Translation Check Assistance: Starseeker Technical Advisor: ImminentTax Quality Check: kishinlink Speacial Thanks: HRSM, ppp-raws (RIP!), Everyone at /m/subs for all the help along the way --------------------------------- **Raw version (you are here) | [Translated + Compressed version](https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1682596)** **[Kaixe homepage](https://kaixerho.wordpress.com/) | [Gunlord homepage](https://gunlord500.wordpress.com) | [Discord](https://discord.gg/0b74YSIo9eqYGgZM) | [Twitter](https://twitter.com/KaixeRho?s=20)**

Amazing. Thank you everyone involved for your dedication
Now this is a certified high effort release, Judgment GitS v4 redrawn-by-hand reference.
Insane does not begin to describe you. I'm guessing this is more of a remux, then a raw, right?

@Dmonhiro I suppose, yeah. I constructed it using Avisynth and used x264's blu-ray compatibility modes while using 2pass bitrate mode to match the source 35.223 Mb/s bitrate of the BD source. This was a compromise to try to get an equivalent quality to the source without, you know, using a lossless codec and inevitably ballooning this multiple times over. Early on, and that was over year or so ago, I tried to find ways to losslessly cut up the source footage and tried methods as primitive as mkvtoolnix's splitting capabilities, but there ended up being too many fades, zooms, and other affects that necessitated building scripts to line the footage up frame by frame, and eventually I ended up with avspmod and just...a lotta time and effort. Anyway, I forgot to do it, but I need to upload the avs scripts and custom frames and such so that if anyone else wants to make their own version of "raws" (perhaps with a lossless codec) it should be easy. Slipped my mind earlier. Man. I'm probably repeating myself by this point. I need some sleep, jeez.
Amazing, thank you so much! Once upon a time I was considering to try and do such a thing back when I saw toynbeeidea's original share of the Nadia extras. It's kinda surreal seeing this now.
