Why is there a weird crusty almost scanline-like effect over the picture?

You're right. Looks like I overdid the settings with AI Video enhancer a little bit. A workaround is to use your player to add a shader blur effect to soften the picture slightly, eliminating the scanline effect. I tried that and it seems to work reasonably well.
