This release is sourced from the official Russian DVDs for the most part, after descaling to the original resolution they look basically identical to the Japanese DVDs with the advantage of having less compression artifacts overall (the JP DVDs unfortunately have some added grain that didn't compress well), I spliced in the Japanese footage whenever there's a 30fps scene and I also spliced in either the Japanese or the Italian DVDs when there were scenes that didn't compress well in the Russian DVDs. For the scenes with heavy grain such as in episodes 1 and 3, I used an overlay of all the sources I have (R1 US, R2J, R3 RU, R2 IT) in order to combat the heavy compression artifacts that every DVD had. The Opening and Ending sequences were sourced from the Blu-Rays since those were re-rendered in HD for the remaster.

The English subtitles are from Hitsuji/A.F.K’s. For the ‘Songs & Signs’ track I’m using their stylings, but I’m consulting with the English DVDs in order have consistency with the dub (For example, using “Computer Club” rather than “Computer Research Society”, and “Brigade Leader” rather than “Chief”).

@welsxn This is the Season 1 DVD order, which means it's chronological (except for episode 0) but it's missing the Season 2 episodes that go in-between. I wouldn't say it's a bad way to watch the show as a begginer (this is essentially how I watched it first back in the day before Season 2 had come out), but if you want the complete chronological experience you would have to search for a guide to see where the Season 2 episodes go.
hmm english subs seem to be a bit of a mess unfortunately. Not all your fault of course, but from a quick scan:
- Dialogue font for some episodes is Arial, others have Myriad Pro SemiCond
- Styling is horrendous
- Some episodes subs are at 720p, some 576p (although that's very important)
- Different typesetting/TLs for signs vs full track
- Typesetting is pretty terrible, but that's not something I'd expect you to fix
- No forced tag for signs track
- Probably a bunch more
actually I was wrong about the dialogue font thing, you just had non-used styles that mislead me. I believe the rest still stands though (and a few fonts are also missing)
Thanks, clearly better than BD. This has some advantages and disadvantages compared to JP DVD but for now it should be the recommended release as long as the subs aren't fucked.
@Animorphs The Signs track is using the translations from Bandai DVDs, otherwise we'd get things such as the sign saying "Computer Research Society" while the dub is calling it "The Computer Club", I decided not to mess with A.F.Ks translation so the full subtitle track doesn't have those changes
