This is an experimental AI remaster of Megalo Box. With the power of ESRGAN, I have wretched quality from this release despite the best efforts of the director to prevent it. Some slight background: This is a digitally produced anime that was purposely released in “HD”, or, in other words, a simple bicubic upscale from 720x405. I have remedied this drastic error in judgment. Frankly, the blu-ray subs suck, and the english dub is pretty decent, so feel free to remux and upload with better subs if you feel like it. This does not attempt to fix other artifacts introduced by post processing or mastering for bluray, including, but not limited to: VERY shitty compression on dark areas, filmic noise, or zoom-ins on low resolution assets within a high resolution canvas, or outlined edges. Watching this on an HDR screen without raising your black level or lowering the overall brightness kinda sucks. Though a certain amount of denoising was achieved, as my original training method introduced *more* noise in the resulting rescale - and I had to modify the dataset to include additional induced noise.
