2024-07-19 Update: Hey there, slow on the releases but still alive and seeding. I’m preparing something big, though I’m insanely low on time, so things are going at a snail’s pace. Don’t skip on me though, something cool is set to come up (hopefully) soon!

Been feeling lazy again, this has been sitting here for a while because I did the episodes and stopped at the extras, even though there’s not really a lot of them. I actually started this project while procrastinating with another one, which I started earlier! That one is all encoded and the extras are done, but I still need to handle the subs for the episodes, gotta sync and cut some vobsubs. That one should hopefully be finished soon as well, and I used a different encoder for it to test said encoder.
Now, why is it 540p instead of 1080p? The BD does indeed has 1080p video, but, not only it is hard letterboxed (1440x1080 with black bars to make it 1920x1080, and on top of that it had some dark edges on the sides as usual of DVD content), it is a very crude upscale. I had better results scaling it to half res than to 480p, so I did it. It is weird, because on the BD it has a good and constant framerate, and it has waaay less mpeg2 artifacts, but it doesn’t look particularly better on other aspects or sharper than the DVD, and the colorimetry is a bit oversaturated as well… So while it is better than the DVD version in some aspects, it is worse in others. The audio was also better in the BD version. Either way, this is the BD version, with the cropped letterboxing and downscaled to half res. Again it really was not worth keeping the original 1080p, it was extremely blurry, but in case people still want it anyway, I’ll keep the source for a few days longer so ask for it in the comments.
As usual, my releases are meant to be watched using mpv. It probably works on other players but that is beyond me.
You can view the JXL files with mpv, by simply dragging and dropping it there or calling it via command line and passing the image path, or if you prefer a proper image viewing solution, on Windows I recommend IrfanView, ImageGlass or jpegview

i dont get it, did you downscale 1080 to 540?

Yes, the BD has a 1920x1080 video stream, which is clearly a simple upscale. Possibly not straight from the DVD since it has less artifacts, but could also have been treated.
The show is 4:3 aspect ratio, so that 1920x1080, which is 16:9, is letterboxed (black bars on the sides). The actual useful resolution is around 1440x1080 (minus a few extra pixels because of dark edges).
It didn’t needed deinterlacing or detelecining, so it was first downscaled to half res, then the letterboxing and the edges were cropped off. I tried downscaling it to 480p to match the DVD, but the results weren’t any better than the 540p, so I kept it 540, which also helps with the encoder since it has more information to work with.
Edit: Most of the extras though were 480p and needed treatment, also had AC3 audio, so these most likely came straight from the DVDs. For these extras I did not downscaled them, and treated them as I usually do for DVDs. The Discotek Trailers also did not needed downscaling, as it was real 1080p (though some of the trailers weren’t, also dat Iria: Zeiram trailer, beautiful stuff). Basically, the extras folder are kept original (no downscale of the 1080p trailers, and the usual DVD treatment for the other things that needed it).
