![Artwork from the 2001 Pioneer DVD of Lady Oscar](https://files.catbox.moe/gaj9t9.png "1 billion yen well spent?") Remux of Lady Oscar from the 2018 Happinet JPBD, including: * Alternate high quality audio mix from the 2008 Arte DVD * Isolated score from the 2001 Pioneer DVD * Teaser and trailer fully subbed in English [MediaInfo](https://pastebin.com/raw/UZY2pdaf) #### "Hey, wait a minute! This movie is in English, shot in France, and directed by one of the great directors of the French New Wave! What makes you think this belongs on Nyaa?" This film was only released in Japan, and funded completely in Japan by *Japanese* producer Matachiro Yamamoto who raised a billion yen from *Japanese* companies Shiseido, Nippon TV, and Toho. It took 30+ years for this film to see any release whatsoever in France, and it is still internationally controlled by *Japanese* companies Filmlink International and Toho. If that isn't good enough reason for this to be admissible, then I don't know what is. ### Video Source | Resolution | FPS | Format --- | --- | --- | --- JPBD Remux | 1920x1080 | 23.976 | H.264 [Comparison of the Pioneer DVD and the Happinet BD](https://slow.pics/c/L6msD5Gc) ##### **Notes:** 1. The remaster here is sourced from a 6K scan of the OCN, and restored/cleaned up in 2K. (Yes, you read that correctly.) The result is absolutely beautiful, to the point that you may start to question whether this movie is truly deserving of such quality ### Audio Language | Source | Source Media | Channels | Format --- | --- | --- | --- | --- ENG | Original English Mono | JPBD Remux | 2.0 Dual Mono | FLAC (DTS-HD MA sourced) ENG | Original English Mono | 2008 Arte R2FR DVD | 2.0 Dual Mono | FLAC JPN | Japanese Dub | JPBD Remux | 2.0 Dual Mono | FLAC (DTS-HD MA sourced) N/A | Isolated Score | 2001 Pioneer R2JDVD | 2.0 Dual Mono | FLAC ##### **Notes:** 1. According to the Pioneer DVD booklet, the only audio assets remaining in Japan were the optical sound negatives and the ME tape. Said optical negative was used for the DVD and subsuqently the BD. However, in my checking of other releases, I discovered the French 2008 Arte DVD (included in the "Intégrale Jacques Demy" boxset) uses a magnetic audio source for the film. In syncing, I found there are a few subtle differences in mixing (SFX differences, missing lines) between both sources, so I decided the best course of action was to include both sources. Choose whichever one you like better, though the BD track is definitely the final mix which was shown on the original theatrical release. 2. The Pioneer DVD included an isolated score track taken from the ME tape stems, which I've synced up. Aside from a few mixing errors in some scenes, it's mostly an intact presentation of Michel Legrand's score. 3. The Japanese dub is the dub created by Nippon TV for broadcast on the Wednesday Roadshow on October 8, 1980. There's a thick amount of hiss, though I didn't think it urgent enough to necessitate a track cleanup. ### Subtitles Style | Format | Source --- | --- | --- | --- English Signs | ASS | Crash Japanese Subtitles | PGS | JPBD Remux Japanese Signs | PGS | JPBD Remux ##### **Notes:** 1. I wanted to include a Captions track, but no release I could find contained one, and existing .SRT rips online are sourced from a machine translation of French subs (???) ### Extras From the JPBD, we have an interview with Oscar's actress Catriona MacColl, and the teaser and trailer. The teaser was rescanned in 6K like the film, but the trailer was encoded as 480i. The interview questions were originally Japanese only, included in the PGS subs. They, along with the teaser and trailer, have been newly translated and timed by [Yume](https://x.com/YumeHinata_Subs) In addition, scans of the R2JDVD and JPBD are included. ### Special Thanks - [Yume](https://x.com/YumeHinata_Subs) for Japanese translation - [Windii](https://nyaa.iss.one/user/Windii?f=0&c=0_0&q=) for scan descreening and Photoshop help - [amicus](https://twitter.com/Amicus_19) for posting to nyaa on my behalf I have this torrent on a seedbox and will seed for as long as I can ### "Are you doing the anime" Maybe :-)

This is WILD. What a gem! Any chance of a smaller (like 1Gb or so) file for those of us with limited disk space and bandwidth?
Excellent job. Also do you mind uploading a smaller version?
