Updates

Thank you to everyone that left a helpful comment. I have since gotten some advice and resources from those in Seed of Might and used their unfished translation reference. This reference has notes from Hermes and I think the translation sounds better than ever. There are still some lines from HAO/HC that match up with Hermes so no need to toss those. If I end up completing the volume, I’ll provide an updated chapter one with this improved translation.

In addition, I decided to add sound effect translations in instances where a translation would not obscure any artwork.

Results

The Seed of Might pages remain at the same resolution in lossless PNG format. I did straighten a few pages just a little bit. I also moved the chapter titles from the end of the Kanzenban to the start of the chapter. This is collected in a standard .cbz which can be unzipped if you want to check each page individually. The file size is smaller than chapter one because there are fewer pages and the black and white pages take up less space.

Comparison

In terms of translations and visuals, I’m presenting pages from a few versions without comment. I grabbed one coloured page and then a black & white at random. The images are presented in the order they were available: 1 Viz, 2 HAO, 3 HC, 4 Tracksuit, 5 Seed of Might, 6 Tuxedo Time
The images are presented in their original size so the first four will be much smaller than the last two. If the SlowPics preview looks like it is not loading, move your screen to find the smaller pages.

Feedback

I’m willing to learn and take criticism on choices. I have .psd files of the pages so fixes should be easy. Things that are helpful:

1. State the page and describe the problem you have
2. Point out objective errors (spelling mistakes, missing words, etc.)
3. Grossly misleading translations and provide a correction
   EDIT: Thanks zman, missing letter “I” on the first color page, noted for the next version.

Things that do not help:

1. Saying “This translation is bad” without explaining how a line should be. If you don’t have specific lines you can offer advice on, this type of comment is just petty and unhelpful.
2. Subjective translation changes that don’t alter the meaning of the line. If a line is “I just ate a bear earlier…” changing it to “Just had a bear the other day…” isn’t a meaningful change.

What’s the Other Zip?

Have a personal problem with the font, size, name choice, etc.? Better yet, do you want to translate the series to French, German, etc.? The second zip contains all the PSDs with text layers. You have the pages with cleaned text bubbles and the text in the right spot. If you want to translate, you can start with these files while you reference the original Japanese. This should save on time. All I ask is a credit to “Tuxedo Time” if you do so.
If you have no interest in working on manga and just want to read, you can either delete the PSD zip or just don’t download it.
