Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, known in Japan as Hagane no Renkinjutsushi:
Fullmetal Alchemist, is the second independent anime adaptation developed by Bones from the Fullmetal Alchemist manga series by Hiromu Arakawa.
While the studio Bones produces the new series, Yasuhiro Irie works as director, and Hiroshi Ōnogi as writer.
The series follows the story of two alchemist brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric,
who want to restore their bodies after a disastrous failed attempt to bring their mother back to life through alchemy.
Unlike the first anime, which had its own original story, the second series follows the story of the manga.

01 "Fullmetal Alchemist"
"Hagane no Renkinjutsushi" (鋼の錬金術師) April 5, 2009\[17\] February 13, 2010\[10\]
The Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse, who have already made a strong reputation of themselves despite Edward's short military career,
are called upon by Führer King Bradley and Colonel Roy Mustang to hunt down rogue State Alchemist Isaac McDougal.
Edward and Alphonse ambush and successfully capture their target. However, due to Ed's carelessness, the "Freezing Alchemist" finds an opening and escapes.
The Elric brothers alongside the State Military are forced to confront McDougal again when he simultaneously activates numerous transmutation circles in Central,
which creates an alchemic reaction encompassing the entire Central Command Center. Ed suspects the use of a Philosopher's Stone,
but is unable to confirm his suspicion. Luckily, the Elrics, Major Alex Louis Armstrong, and Mustang succeed in
thwarting McDougal's plans to bury Central in ice. The Führer confronts McDougal as he attempts to escape. In the brief battle that follows,
Isaac is easily cut down by the Führer, who later credits both Colonel Mustang and the Elric brothers in helping accomplish the mission.
02 "The First Day"
"Hajimari no Hi" (はじまりの日) April 12, 2009\[18\] February 20, 2010\[10\]
Colonel Maes Hughes shows Mustang the paperwork concerning the McDougal incident,
which states that McDougal used a Xingese art known as alkahestry; neither Hughes nor Mustang have heard of it.
As the Elrics depart for Liore by train, Ed reminisces his and Al's childhood. They learn rudimentary alchemy from their father's books,
and, after their mother's death, attempt to revive her by performing taboo human transmutation. During the alchemical reaction, a dark shadow emerges,
grabbing hold of Al and Ed, completely breaking down Al's physical body. Ed awakens before a mysterious gate and meets a disembodied figure,
referring to itself as "all," "one," and "you." In order to show Edward "The Truth," the door opens and shadows embrace Ed,
filling his mind with information. However, he is pulled back from the gate just before he learns the secret
behind perfect human transmutation. As a "toll" for this knowledge, the disembodied figure removes Edward's leg as payment,
taking it for itself. Back in reality, Ed curses his actions in causing his brother's disappearance,
and the disfigured humanoid the Elrics created in the center of the transmutation circle cries out before shortly dying.
Using his own blood as an anchoring point, Ed bonds Al's soul to a suit of armor, losing his arm to equivalent exchange.
Ed's skill in both surviving the attempted human transmutation and anchoring his brother's soul attracts the attention of Mustang,
who suggests Ed become a State Alchemist. Edward accepts, and, after passing the state exams, is given the title "Fullmetal Alchemist."
03 "City of Heresy"
"Jakyō no Machi" (邪教の街) April 19, 2009\[19\] February 27, 2010\[10\]
Ed and Al arrive at Liore, where they witness Father Cornello's "miracles," performed by what could only be the Philosopher's Stone.
They meet Rosé and request to see Cornello. Cornello, who is aware of the State Alchemists,
ambushes Ed and Al, and asks Rose to shoot the Fullmetal Alchemist. Rosé accidentally shoots Al, and discovers his armor is empty.
Cornello sends a chimera after Ed, who fends it back with his automail, revealing their sin. Ed and Al escape, taking Rose with them.
While Al explains to Rosé the sin they have committed, Cornello finds Ed and reveals his plans,
unaware it had been broadcasted to the whole town of Liore. When Cornello tries to use the Philosopher's Stone against Ed,
it rebounds. When he tries to use it again, he grows into a monster and fights Ed, but is defeated by him.
When Ed tries to retrieve the Philosopher's Stone from Cornello, it breaks, revealing it as a fake. Cornello runs off,
but is killed by Lust and eaten by Gluttony. When Rosé confronts Ed and Al about the stone, Ed tells her to walk on her own two feet.
04 "An Alchemist's Anguish"
"Renkinjutsushi no Kunō" (錬金術師の苦悩) April 26, 2009\[20\] March 6, 2010\[10\]
A mysterious man with a "X"-shaped scar across his face attacks and murders State Alchemists.
King Bradley orders Hughes and Armstrong to use all available resources to stop the murderer. Meanwhile,
to avoid being in debt to Edward for helping to resolve what happened in Lior, Mustang introduces the Elrics to Shou Tucker.
Tucker, the "Sewing-Life Alchemist," obtained his State Alchemist credentials by creating a chimera that could understand human language.
He opens up his library to the Elrics for them to study living creature transmutation,
but they also end up devoting time to play with Tucker's young daughter Nina and family dog Alexander.
Upon returning to the house for another study session, they find that Tucker has created another speaking chimera
in order to satisfy his yearly examination requirements. However, Ed is horrified to discover that the speaking chimera was
created using Nina and Alexander, and realizes that Tucker did the same with his wife, two years prior.
Ed nearly beats him to death, stopped only by Al. Ed is left feeling helpless, while Mustang tells him that by being a State Alchemist,
Ed must prepare himself to take a life if called upon by the military. While Tucker is under arrest for his actions,
he is visited by the scarred man who kills him and the chimera.
05 "Rain of Sorrows"
"Kanashimi no Ame" (哀しみの雨) May 3, 2009\[21\] March 13, 2010\[10\]
After Ed wakes up from a nightmare, the Elrics stop by Mustang's office to inquire about Shou and Nina Tucker.
Encountering Lt. Riza Hawkeye, she reveals, as she heads to the crime scene, that they have both been killed.
Meanwhile, back in Lior, Lust and Gluttony attempt to cause a rebellion using the faith of the locals,
with Envy using his shape-shifting powers to disguise himself as Cornello. Back at East City, as Ed and Al dwell on their limits in alchemy,
they are viciously attacked by "Scar." They quickly retreat until they are cornered and are forced to defend themselves,
resulting in Scar destroying Ed's arm and damaging Al's body. Just as Scar prepares to finish off Ed,
Mustang and his soldiers intervene. Mustang attempts to subdue Scar, but is saved by Hawkeye,
who reminds the Mustang that his flame alchemy is useless in the rain. When Armstrong arrives and battles Scar,
it is revealed that the man is an Ishbalan. Outnumbered, Scar manages to escape into the sewers,
and Mustang tells the Elric brothers about the Ishbal Massacre. The Elrics then decide to head back to Resembool to repair their bodies.
06 "Road of Hope a.k.a A Home With a Family Waiting\[22\]"
"Kibō no Michi" (希望の道) May 10, 2009\[23\] March 20, 2010\[10\]
After their encounter with Scar, the Elric brothers, escorted by Armstrong, head back to Resembool.
During a stop in a small town on their way to Resembool, Armstrong spots a man named Tim Marcoh.
He explains that Marcoh was a State Alchemist and doctor during the Ishbal War,
and conducted research on biological alchemy before disappearing at the end of the war.
In an effort to learn about Marcoh's research, Ed decides to get off the train and chase after Marcoh. They catch up to him and learn that he was researching the
Philosopher's Stone,
and that he succeeded in creating it, though it is still incomplete. At first refusing to share his knowledge with Ed, Marcoh eventually gives them a clue to the
location of his research data.
After they reach Resembool, Winry Rockbell and her grandmother, Pinako, get to work on Ed's automail. After receiving his replacement arm and leg,
Ed uses his alchemy to rebuild Al's armor from the shattered remains.
Afterwards, the brothers, along with Armstrong, head back to Central to find Marcoh's research.
07 "Hidden Truths"
"Kakusareta Shinjitsu" (隠された真実) May 17, 2009\[24\] March 27, 2010\[10\]
Ed and Al arrive back in Central, only to find that the First Branch Library had been burned to the ground.
Scar encounters and battles Lust and Gluttony in the sewers, resulting in a large explosion.
Ed and Al's new escorts, Maria Ross and Denny Brosh, direct Ed and Al to Sheska, a file clerk who had worked at the First Branch, but was fired for spending all
her time reading. Sheska reveals that she has memorized all of Marcoh's works,
and then makes hand-written duplicates for the Elrics. While initially appearing to be a cookbook,
Ed notices that is written in a code that Marcoh created. Ed and Al spend several days deciphering the hidden data, only to discover that the Philosopher's Stone
is made from living humans. Ed asks Ross and Brosh to keep it a secret
, but Armstrong learns about it using intimidation. Ed notices another hidden piece of information,
locating an unused laboratory next to a prison, where raw materials for the stone were gathered. Armstrong tells Ed and Al to stay put, but they both manage to
sneak out to the laboratory.
Ed enters the building via an air duct while Al waits outside, unaware that he is being watched by a menacing figure.
08 "The Fifth Laboratory"
"Daigo Kenkyūsho" (第五研究所) May 24, 2009\[25\] April 3, 2010\[10\]
Outside the lab, Al fights Barry the Chopper, and Ed faces Slicer inside.
It is revealed that both opponents are souls of murderers affixed to armor. Ed struggles in his battle when his automail arm malfunctions,
the result of Winry forgetting to add a small bolt back in Resembool. Ed is particularly troubled when his opponent turns out to be a pair of brothers, each
controlling a different part of the armor. Al initially has the advantage in his fight,
until Barry suggests that Al never existed and was just a doll made by Ed.
Al contemplates this as a possibility, since Ed had previously mentioned to Al that he had something he was afraid to tell him. Ed manages to defeat Slicer by
using Scar's destruction technique, but before he can get any information from the two brothers,
they are killed by Lust and Envy. Ed demands to know who they are and tries to use alchemy,
but his automail arm breaks and he gets knocked out by Envy. Outside, Barry almost gets the upper hand on Al, but he is saved by the arrival of Ross and Brosh.
Envy and Lust destroy the lab to cover up the evidence of the Philosopher's Stone, but not before carrying Ed outside and handing him over to Ross and Brosh,
commenting that he is an "important sacrifice."

and asks him to trust adults more. Needing his automail repaired, Ed calls for Winry to come to Central.
When Winry arrives at the train station, Al contemplates what Barry had told him. Hughes invites Winry over to his daughter's birthday party, where she laments
that Ed and Al never tell her anything.
Hughes tells her that men tend to hide things so as not to worry anyone. Al decides to confront Ed
about what he was afraid to tell him, asking if he was really an artificial soul. Ed storms off and Winry yells at Al,
telling him that Ed was terrified that Al blamed him for getting him stuck in the armor. Ed and Al then have a fight,
which Ed wins, and they both reminisce about their past fights, reaffirming their existence. Meanwhile, Scar wakes up in the care of Ishbalan refugees.
10 "Separate Destinations"
"Sorezore no Yukusaki" (それぞれの行く先) June 7, 2009\[28\] April 17, 2010\[27\]
Ed and Al decide to go to the town of Dublith to visit their alchemy teacher, Izumi Curtis,
to ask her for information about the Philosopher's Stone. They agree to take Winry with them when she notices that Rush Valley, a town best known for its automail
shops, is on the way to Dublith.
King Bradley appears and warns the Elrics to be careful around the military, and he then hops out of a window to evade his subordinates.
Hughes investigates the problems in Lior, The Fifth Laboratory, and the war in Ishbal. He discovers a connection,
but is then attacked by Lust. He escapes her and tries to telephone Mustang with his information at a public phonebooth, only to be gunned down by Envy disguised
as Maria Ross, and then as his wife Gracia.
Hughes is posthumously promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. Mustang investigates Hughes' murder,
and concludes via Armstrong that a high-ranked member of the military may be responsible for the command of Hughes' death.
11 "Miracle at Rush Valley"
"Rasshu Barē no Kiseki" (ラッシュバレーの奇跡) June 14, 2009\[29\] April 24, 2010\[27\]

who has automail legs. After tracking her down, Winry asks her automail's creator, Mr. Dominic, to let her be his apprentice,
but is swiftly declined. As Winry convinces Paninya to stop pickpocketing and return the watch, she peeks in it and finds,
carved inside, the date Ed and Al burned down their house. Meanwhile, one of the residents is having a baby, and since they are unable to travel to a hospital in
the poor weather, Winry decides to deliver the baby. Following a successful birth,
Winry asks again to be an apprentice, and Mr. Dominic directs her to another mechanic where she can study to become a better automail engineer.
With that, Ed and Al continue onwards to Dublith.

the Elric brothers recall how they first met Izumi during a flooding in Resembool, and how they had been formally accepted as Izumi's disciples after being
stranded on an island for 30 days.
Ed recalls that he and Al had figured out the meaning behind "One is All, All is One."
Izumi notices that Ed and Al had attempted human transmutation, concluding this from their movement during hand-to-hand combat training. Realizing that they were
not the only ones who had committed the taboo,
Izumi tells the Elrics that she also had attempted human transmutation to bring back her child,
who died when Izumi became sick during pregnancy. The three make up, bonding over the hardships that they went through after suffering the effects of human

and Fuery that they are all going back to be restationed in Central. Scar, recovering in an Ishbalan squatter colony, is advised by the elder that pursuing the
current State Alchemists in the Amestrisian military would not
do the surviving Ishbalans any good. Yoki recruits two thugs to capture Scar and bring him back to Central,
due to his connections to the murder of State Alchemist Basque Gran. Scar easily defeats them and leaves the colony. Lured to a trap after reading a threatening
note regarding Ed and Al's secret, Al is captured by
Greed's ex-military chimera henchmen, who are seeking to figure out how to transmute a soul into empty armor.
Ed faces off against Dorchet and then Greed, who uses his "Ultimate Shield" to make himself invulnerable to Ed's attacks. Ed finds a way around this by
transmuting the ultimate shield itself. Izumi arrives and intervenes,
taking Greed by surprise.

inside Al, is killed,
her blood splashes on Al's blood seal and unlocks his forgotten memories.
Al reveals to Ed that he managed to recover all of his memories prior to being taken away from the Gate when
Ed failed in his human transmutation attempt to revive their mother.
Greed, severely weakened by Wrath with his dual swords during a duel in the sewers beneath Devil's Nest,
is taken back as a captive to Father, who was disappointed in him after he deserted the rest of the homunculi

to Amestris to search for the Philosopher's Stone. In Central,
Barry the Chopper is detained by Mustang, Hawkeye, and Falman to be interrogated regarding Hughes' assassination.
Elsewhere, the Elric brothers return to Rush Valley to have Ed's automail repaired once again. They then find a man on the verge of starving to death and save

Ross. Barry tells Ross that she needs to leave Central immediately, or risk being killed. Ed and Al run into the trio, and Barry holds the brothers off to allow
Ross time to get away. Ross then runs into Mustang, who seemingly kills her in a massive explosion.
Edward later accosts Mustang after seeing Ross' charred body while Mustang coldly reminds Ed of his place as
a soldier of the Amestrian military. Major Armstrong later shows up at the Elrics' hotel room and declares that Ed "needs" to return back to Resembool to have his

Once they arrive in Resembool, Ed and Armstrong meet up with Breda, who takes them to the ruins of Xerxes.
Once there, they discover that Ross is still alive, and that Mustang faked her death in order to draw out those responsible for Hughes' death. After the brief
reunion,
Ross decides to hide out in Xing, but promises to return if she is ever needed. After Ross' departure, Ed explores the ruins further and encounters a group of
Ishbalan refugees,
who reveal that it was Scar who killed Winry's parents during the Ishbal War. Meanwhile, back in Central,
Barry's body, which is now nothing more than a crazed animal, attacks Falman and Barry. However, with Havoc and Hawkeye's assistance, they manage to subdue Barry's
body. Then, Hawkeye is attacked by Gluttony.

Alphonse meets up with the group and they pursue Barry, who chases his body into the depths of the Third Laboratory.
The group splits into two teams. Mustang and Lieutenant Havoc are ambushed by Lust, resulting in both men being grievously wounded and left for dead. Lust then
confronts Al, Hawkeye, and Barry, slicing Barry to pieces.
Hawkeye, believing Mustang to be dead, flies into a suicidal rage and shoots Lust repeatedly, without effect.
Before Lust can kill Hawkeye, Mustang appears, revealing he sealed both his and Havoc's wounds by burning them shut. He repeatedly sets Lust on fire until her
Philospher's Stone runs out of energy. No longer able to regenerate,
her body and Philosopher's Stone core crumble to ash. Barry's soul survives, but his blood seal is scratched out by his body,
which kills both of them. Edward returns to Resembool and heads for the Rockbell house, but spots his father, Van Hohenheim, at his mother's grave.

about whether or not the person Ed transmuted was actually his mother. Hohenheim leaves the next day,
warning Pinako that something horrible will happen in this country. Al explains to Ling the circumstances of his body, and Winry is appalled at Lin's opinion that
a body like Al's would be great. Determined to find the true answer,
Ed and Pinako dig up the corpse of the failed transmutation, even though Ed keeps retching at the thought. When he digs up some hair,
he realizes it wasn't their mother Trisha that they transmuted. Ed then calls Izumi about the legitimacy of her transmutation,
but she doesn't answer. Ed then returns to Central and reunites with Al and Winry, reassuring them that getting Al's body back might be possible. Izumi calls Ed
back, saying she had the same results as him,
which confirms his suspicions that it is possible to bring Al's body back, but not to revive the dead.
Ed, Al, and Izumi feel a sense of relief that they hadn't killed someone a second time. Ed and Al reaffirm their resolve to return Al to his original body.
21 "Advance of the Fool"

Lin and Lan Fan appear and agree to help them, as it would benefit Ling in finding immortality. After investigation, Ed, Al, and Roy begin to suspect Bradley of
cooperating with the homunculi. While Roy and co. prepare themselves to go after them,
Havoc reveals the lower half of his body is paralyzed, and Roy feels a bit of remorse for that. Roy sends Breda to locate Dr. Marcoh,
while Ed and Armstrong get word that Scar is nearby. Breda reaches Marcoh's place,
only to find he has been kidnapped. Ed makes a spectacle of himself, eventually drawing out Scar. Ed and Al fight him while Roy confuses the military to buy them
time. Ed notices the tattoo on Scar's arm, realizing he is the one who killed Winry's parents.
Lin and Lan Fan end up facing Gluttony and Bradley, the latter injuring Lan Fan.

State Alchemists. However,
they were attacked by Kimblee, who heavily injured Scar. To save him, his brother sacrificed himself and transferred his right arm to his.
Shocked upon waking up and seeing his brother's arm on his body, he went beserk and killed Winry's parents. Before they can kill each other, Ed protects Winry
from Scar, reminding him of when his brother protected him.
Al chases Scar while Ed comforts Winry, getting her to let go of the gun. Winry then bursts into tears.

and is able to capture Gluttony. Lan Fan manages to escape Bradley by cutting off her disabled arm to throw off her blood trail.
Riza arrives and drives off with Lin and Gluttony, keeping it secret from the military. As Ed and Al are about to apprehend Scar, they are stopped by May Chang,
who uses her alkahestry to escape with him. However,
Ed and Al manage to take custody of her panda, Shao May. As they arrive back at HQ, they tell Winry everything.
She feels depressed, believing all she can do is wait, but feels better when she receives a call from her customers back in Rush Valley. As she goes on the train
back, Winry realizes that she actually has fallen in love with Ed.
Meanwhile, Ed and Al join up with the others at a hideout,
