Kekkaishi (結界師?, lit. “Barrier Master”) is an ongoing supernatural manga series by Yellow Tanabe.
It is serialized in Japan by Shogakukan in the manga magazine Shōnen Sunday, and licensed for an
English release in North America by Viz Media. It was adapted as a fifty-two episode anime series by Sunrise,
which was broadcast between October 2006 and February 2008. The series is about Yoshimori Sumimura
and Tokine Yukimura, heirs to rival clans of kekkai (barrier magic) users, who must defend their school
from the spirits drawn to the sacred land upon which it is built. Kekkaishi received the 2007
Shogakukan Manga Award for shōnen manga.

Story

42 “Night Troops Arrive”

Yoshimori feels quite crowded when Masamori and the Night Troops move into the neighborhood.
He is further surprised to see that his older brother, Masamori, has ordered a few of his troops to
assist the Kekkaishi of Karasumori. Meanwhile, still moping because of Gen Shishio’s death,
a depressed Yoshimori takes a short walk after school and passes by Gen’s old apartment
(which is now occupied by Atora). Atora consoles Yoshimori by telling him that she’s jealous of him
because he was able to see Gen’s smile, something that she herself has never seen before,
when Gen passed on. Feeling rejuvenated and his mind cleared, his spirit is renewed as he heads home.
However, he finds himself being followed by Sen and his two friends.
