Notes/Description:
After a theatrical circuit that lasted way too long, Princess Mononoke has finally arrived on 4K UHD and is the first Ghibli movie to do so. This release is 1080p SDR sourced from the Blu-Ray in the UHD set.
Video -
Obviously, the new 4K master. It offers much superior image quality with actual color grading and not Ghibli's usual uncorrected fade look. [Comparison Pics w/ DCP](https://slow.pics/c/RoG03kGe?image-fit=cover)
Audio -
CiNEPHiLES did a lot of audio research for their release and I simply used their audio notes as a base. The Theatrical 5.1 was rather elusive until recently, only ever receiving a release on the Japanese Laserdisc. Recently however a DCP from Finland leaked and contained the mix uncompressed and the UHD has it as its 5.1 track. CiNEPHiLES found that the DCP audio offered a slight advantage as it is slightly less limited than the UHD 5.1 (and it's 24-bit i guess but that doesn't really matter). The stereo mix wasn't as lucky as it's theatrical mix was only ever released on the Japanese Laserdisc, every other release has the home optimized mix. I have included both Home and Theatrical mixes for completionism and support for a variety of sound systems. The English audio was sourced from the UKBD as it was also less limited than the other releases.
Subtitles -
I slightly restyled eli's fansubs for the main track. I changed the title card font to match the older export English logo, made the main dialogue font smaller, changed the ED styling to match THORA's typeset, and removed the credits as I felt they looked out of place. The translation is the exact same as eli's v2. From there I made dubtitles and a basic SRT option for those who want it. Official subtitles are included as an alternative, and Japanese SDH is also here for the omega weebs (even Japanese subs for the English dub if you're a fan of Neil Gaiman from sexual assault).
I tried my best to get this release out before the CiNEPHiLES release got on Nyaa (so much so I cut the extras as I simply didn't have them on hand) but it seems I was unsuccessful in my attempt so this release is kinda pointless minus the subtitlesl. If you are wondering why I never do 4K HDR releases it's a combination of space and inability to test HDR. BTW for anyone wants to add the International dubs from DragsterPS' WEB-DL, the timing between the JPBD and the new UHD are the exact same so for the WEB just apply a -5000ms delay.

I don't know why I like the DCP's look more. I'll go with whatever the intentional color grading/look is, which is probably the 4k master, but I don't know why I prefer how the DCP looks. *cries in first world problems because I can't decide*
DCP color quality is better.
Japanese UHD color quality is very, very bad.
Actually, with a little tweaking and color correction, JPN UHD could be even better.
your encodes looked like smeared poop so I don't trust that statement at all
