She moved on to work in British opera and ballet, too, during three years learning the ropes in Europe. Sakurai then founded her own stage costume company in 1985 and brought a fresh breeze to the world of Japanese theatrical costume design. She introduces new techniques and materials in from abroad, decorates, patterns, sews and so on in highly distinctive ways and engages in a wide range of fields reaching all of the way to Ichikawa Ennosuke's Super Kabuki!
