This release isn't late, what makes you think so? xD Enjoy the cuteness of Kemo-Kemo, more to come!
Alright, so we've been thinking about implementing 10-bit into our releases recently and this is where we stand right now. Personally, I don't quite see the visual benefit of 10-bit over 8-bit, I haven't come across enough conclusive evidence and am open to anyone who wants to show me a few screenshot comparisons. All people can really say is that there's less banding in dark scenes/areas but if you're looking _that_ closely at the video and not actually watching the episode or reading the subtitles, then what's the point? Obviously I'm not saying the video can be shit, otherwise we wouldn't do this every week, I just mean if it looks pretty much identical to the naked eye without actually comparing and inspecting, then everything is daijoubu.
As for the size difference, you won't be saving much more than 50MB per episode at most I find, Blu-Ray is a different story however, but we mostly only deal with TV. There were a couple votes on our poll where people didn't know what it was or can't handle it and also a comment from someone who doesn't want us to change our current format. The other case is whether we _CAN_ actually implement 10-bit, because right now, we can't. WCP has always been about speed releases, we pride ourselves on it and while more recent episodes have taken longer to do, we still do it as fast as we can. The raws (mostly SOFCJ) that we use because of their speed/quality are in 8-bit and that's not gonna change for the foreseeable future. We don't have a capper and therefore can't get .ts files (raw recorded TV) every week and then encode that (which would lengthen release times).
Taking 8-bit raws that have already been encoded and re-encoding them into 10-bit is pretty much bullshit, it would truly be nothing more than a placebo effect then. I've spoken to a couple raw providers and they're not willing to help us at the moment, but if there's anyone who wants to come forward and offer their assistance, be our guest. The overall thing to remember is that while all 8-bit releases will work for people who can handle 10-bit, not all 10-bit releases will work for people who can only handle 8-bit. For anyone who was excited about us "upgrading" to the new technology, I'm sorry but there's nothing we can do or change at this moment in time without outside help.
