This comes as an alternative take at restoring/remastering the 99' DVDs.
S-A's way was heavy noise reduction and sharpening, which combined with low-bitrate encoding, was pretty bad espatially in early episodes.
I chose not to use NR at all to protect the film grain and whatever little detail is in there and went with contrast and colour corrections.
I assume the DVDs come from the broadcast telecine with no mastering at all, hence the huge differences in colours between episodes. This can also be suspected by the various film artifacts and damage here and there + the film cut and joins between scenes on top and bottom (commonly confused for vhs noise).
Generally though the DVDs with no edit look even worse than S-A.
Most of the episodes are ~400-450mb though in yorkshin the DVD quality improves dramaticaly and so does the filesize.
R1 DVDs + clean OPs and EDs from R2s kindly provided by another anon. Colour correction was not always used but in the first 20-25 episodes was used a lot.
Generally episodes 2-9 were shit and the quality begins to rise at the end of the hunter exam, where even then there were some shitty looking episodes here and there, depending on the animation team.
The subtitles were taken from S-A who basically used the dvd subs but did some "cosmetic" touches like adding the sighns etc.
Enjoy!
