This is not a good translation. There are multiple words left in Japanese that shouldn’t be expected to be known by everyone, even by anime watchers. There is kyoushi, which appears often and could have just been replaced with teacher, and omiai, which should’ve been explained with a note if they really didn’t want to replace it. And something else that I forgot, but also had an English counterpart with the same meaning.
