I took a break from Victory to bang this one out since it ended up being really easy to put together. I did the bulk of the dub and sub sync work back in 2014 on the R3 version of the 2006 remaster, so I was betting on the BD being based on that version. Sadly, I was right. As I've documented before, the 2006 remaster is one of, if not definitely Sunrise's first HD remaster. It's literally 10 years old at this point, and it baffles me that Sunrise couldn't find the budget to redo this much like they did their Outlaw Star transfer. This BD is reasonably sharp (though marred by halos), but it suffers the same underexposure issues, resulting in grey black levels that have crushed shadows. It's much like the 08th MS Team OVA transfer (see below for why that tranfer was bullshit), in that it loses significant shadow detail, but is even worse in that also lacks sufficient saturation and white levels. I attempted to make the show more perceptually enjoyable on the DVD version, but my attempts, especially in the first four or five episodes, was too exaggerated. I then tried a more restrained correction chain on the Afterglow of Zeon, but ended up crushing the shadows even more. Obviously, I wanted to avoid that this time, so I went through three iterations of Photoshop curves to get it \*just\* right, and I think the results are as good as it's going to get. There \*is\* more noise in the shadows as a result, which I tried to selectively counter (denoising exclusively in the shadow range), but I think it's preferable to the BD's color. And that brings me to the Cima Special, The Mayfly of Space. I don't know what happened here, but the version on the R1 looks NOTHING like the 2006 version. The color was off, but not significantly. In the 2006 HD remaster (and this BD), the color balance literally shifts from scene to scene. Notably, all scenes inside Cima's ship have a nasty red tinge with elevated black levels. Other shots have a slight blue tinge that only became noticeable when correcting the overall levels. All of these issues have been corrected scene by scene to the best of my abilities, since the special was short enough to justify it. Lastly, the new picture drama recycles (read: upscales and crops) some OVA footage, but I didn't have the patience to clean it up. Bonus: It's a testament to how far SHADING has fallen. The audio has been upgraded on both Japanese tracks directly from the BD, with priority given to the original stereo track. The English track is downmixed from the fake 5.1 track on the R1 DVD. **Video:** H.264 CRF18 10bit **Audio:** Japanese 2.0, Japanese 5.1, English 2.0 **Subs:** R1 DVD Filter Chain Comparison: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/164265 Cima Special Comparison: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/164267 08th MS Team Comparison: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison.php?id=40088

The English dub for EP04 is off by 600ms, it can simply be fixed by muxing the audio again in mkvtoolnix by selecting the English audio and putting 600 in ‘Delay (in ms)’ and then mux it again.
