#### About Y410: It's mostly for those, who, like myself, has a Monitor/TV with native resolution higher than Full HD 1920x1080 (like WQHD 2560x1440 or UHD, etc).
#### When decoding, no matter how you will encode chroma, it will be displayed in 4:4:4 format. However, if you encode it as 4:2:0 or 4:2:2, it will be upscaled back to 4:4:4, but it isn't for free - it will require some computing resources. Thus, to avoid this 3rd upscaling step (well, first, actually) i encode it as Y410. At smaller bitrates (like less than 8 Mbit/sec) it may have some bad impact on image quality, but with my 12 Mbit/sec it should be fine, thus allowing people to use more "super res" passes on upscaled image, instead of wasting GPU time on 4:2:0 --> 4:4:4 transformation.
#### Price to pay - larger files (due to bigger bitrate). Does it worth the efforts or not - is up to you people.

Y410 cannot be hardware accelerated. So you can only use x86 PC to play them. That is fine except you have TrueHD/DTS-HD MA. Most people using PC don't have a receiver to bitsream. Would be better to convert it to FLAC instead.
Just a suggestion.
No, actually all GP104 and newer chips (i.e. all Pascal family GeForce GTX 10x0 GPUs) can do both hardware decoding (hevc_cuvid) and encoding (hevc_nvenc) of H.265 Y410 content.
Though, i agree that older chips (including 2nd generation Maxwell GPU) can't do that (they only can handle HEVC YUV 4:2:0), while even older chips cant handle HEVC at all.
So, if you're saying that my files are kinda "consumer-unfriendly" then you're probably right =) As well as i agree that, though, AC3 filter can handle DTS files just fine, 5.1 layout is still unnecessary for most people, and 2.0 flac would be just enough
But it also means that even if you don’t have receiver and 5.1 SS Audio - you ain’t losing anything, but if you have - you can enjoy DTS audio. That's the overall paradigm of my torrents =)
Oh I didn't know that Nvidia can do Y410. I do know they can do Main 12 HEVC.
I was more thinking in terms of ARM boards like Odroid C2, which can do Main 10 HEVC 4K. Making it a cheap HTPC.
