Honestly, yes, it is. An i7 960 (1st gen) sucks and can't do much... 8bit would be encoding at 17-20 fps, but 12bit HEVC, however, is just 1.07 fps.

You could just use superior x264 :^)

Nice response. I take it that you don't actually follow x265's development in the slightest and have no idea what you're actually talking about. There are only a few cases (mainly very low bitrates and resolutions >1080p) where x265 reliably outperforms x264 in terms of quality but if you are sure that x265 is the superior choice for your footage and don't mind encoding at ~1fps that's your thing.

12 bit is really experimental, why not 10bit? It takes less time to encode.
